Up for auction is a 1974 AMC Javelin. This is an original 304/auto car with about 120k miles on the body. It now has a good running AMC 360 and 727 Torque Command out of a 1978 Matador wagon that had 55k miles I previously owned. The car is in decent condition for a driver, and is on the road and being driven regularly. Mechanically the car is very sound, it runs drives and shifts well, and has plenty of power. There are no leaks from the engine, as it had new oil pan gasket, new rear main seal, and new valve cover gaskets installed shortly after I bought the car 3 years ago. The transmission has a small leak but if the fluid is regularly checked and topped off it is fine, sometimes the car will puff a very small amount of smoke at startup (most likely valve seals are getting old), and the temperature guage is not functioning, but those are the only mechanical shortcomings it seems to have. It will also need new leaf springs, but included with the car to be installed are two new leaf springs and shackles, new air shocks, powdercoated new traction bars, and a 3:15 twin grip rear axle. It could use an exhaust as right now it just has glasspacks directly off the headers with turn downs. I don't mind it, but it is rather loud and any normal person will probably need to take care of it. Many new parts have been installed in the last 3 years, including a new Edelbrock 600 carburetor, Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, unknown name headers, radiator, timing chain, Accel coil, cap wires, NGK spark plugs, fuel pump, alternator, voltage regulator, brake calipers, wheel cylinders, pads, master cylinder, some brake lines, battery, lights, heater blower motor and carpet. I have new scuffplates that have not been installed to also go on the vehicle. I made this car to be a reliable daily driver, and until last year when I got a newer and more fuel efficient vehicle I was using it in the summer as my everyday transportation. I have put about 12000 miles on it since I got it, and still drive this car to work when it is nice out. Body wise, the car does have some rust and cosmetic issues, but is in decent shape and looks alright from 20-30 feet away. The paint is about 3/4 original, and the hood, driver's quarter panel and rear panel have been repainted at one point. There are various small dings and dents, the largest being on the front valance. A rust and dent free replacement is included with the car. There is also some random scratches, surface rust spots and spray can touchups. The original paint is a bit weathered and faded, but when polished blends alright with the repainted areas. The chrome on the car is ok, not show quality but not overly pitted or rusty. The front bumper is bent like most 71-74 Javelins, and the rear bumper has a small bump in it. As far as structural rust, the front floors had some sheet metal patches in them, the area under the drivers and passengers feet to the inner rocker was rotted. The passengers quarter has some rot starting around the wheel arch and a few pinholes behind it, there is some bubbling on the drivers side quarter, and evidence of patching/bondo that you can see on that quarter and the rear panel from inside the trunk. The rest of the car is solid, the frame rails, rockers, troughs, rear floors, inner wheel wheels and trunk floor all are great shape. For a New York car as old as it is, it's still in really great shape. The interior is complete minus the rear package tray, dash grille and radio, but needs work. Some of the interior panels are scuffed, and it has 1971 Javelin seats in it that need to be reupholstered and new backs. I also have the original seats but they are very bad and arent really useable. The headliner and sunvisors are in decent shape with the exception of a small hole that is hidden behind the passenger visor. The dash has no cracks. The only reason I am selling the car is to make room for another AMC I just bought. It really pains me to get rid of it as its a fun and reliable 2nd car for me, but I'm up to 4 cars now and can only drive one at a time. It will make a good car for the next owner to drive and take to the next level, or leave alone and not have to be too picky to park at the grocery store. I would not hesitate to drive the car anywhere, but I highly recommend if you live on the other side of the country to ship or trailer the car. It is an old vehicle, and you never know what could happen. The car is sold as is with no warranties expressed or implied. A $500 dollar deposit is required within 48 hours of auction's end.
