Vehicle Description
1973 BMW 2002 Tii In Hard To Find INKA!!!
I purchased this Tii back in April here on eBay from a very honest seller in Portland, Oregon. He described the car very accurately. Below is his description of the car. I will add my own in parenthesis as well as at the end... Previous Owner's Description
History- This car has very little history other than a few receipts from past tune-ups and misc work... and word of mouth. I was told that the car was garaged most of its life and that it was repainted back in the mid 80's and they did a very good job... a single stage was used.
Recent history- When I purchased the car it was running rough, so I took it to Mike O'hara's here in Portland and they performed a complete check-up and tune-up. Complete fluid change, valves adjusted, plugs, cap, rotor, points, fuel filter and air filter. All the MFI components were gone through... IE Linkage, Throttle body, and pump setting for proper operation!
Mechanical- The car has 158K (now has 159,500 miles) on it and starts perfect every time, and runs like a TOP, and accelerates with precision just like it was designed too! It has no oil or water leaks to speak of but it does smoke a bit on hard decel, so it most likely needs guide seals. (This issue is now resolved.) The transmission is the stock 4 speed and shifts very smooth in all gears, and is quiet with no whiny gears. The clutch feels very solid with lots of life left! But I have no history of it ever being replaced. The exhaust was upgraded to a 2" stainless system from Ireland Engineering and is a work of Art!! It made this engine come alive with no more low-end bog, and a much smoother idle and solid power band... Yet it is very quiet!!!
Suspension, Steering, and Brakes- The suspension looks to be about an inch lower than standard. All bushing look very good, the ride feels very good with just the right amount of stiffness during spirited driving, yet is still soft around town! The steering system looks to have just been done recently. All the ball joints are in very good condition, the car drives solid with no clunks, or sensations of looseness. It drives very straight and true and the steering wheel is dead straight! No shakes or shimmies from the wheels, rear wheel bearings are very quiet. The front brakes were just done. It has new rotors, pads, and bearings so the brakes are rock solid and in perfect operation with no shaking or fading! The wheels are a next to perfect set of BBS 13X6 ET20 date stamped 82. Tires are Bridgestone BT70s 185/70/R13 and have approx 85% tread. (Currently on the car are Campagnolos 5 1/2X13 with Yokohama Avid T4 185/70R13. See Picture. The winning bidder can choose either set for the car.)
Exterior-Body, Paint, and Trim- The exterior is in very good shape as you can see with very few flaws! The paint is in beautiful shape all the way around the car. It polishes out very nice with lots of luster and depth! The only dents to speak of are on the hood with a small row of dings that I have no idea how they would have gotten there. They don't really show up with a camera. The only rust to speak of is in the rear arches with a few minor blisters. But the floors, rockers and the underside of the car is in very good shape!! The britework trim is all in great shape with no dings, and appears to be all original. The glass is in good shape except for a small knick on the lower passenger side of the windshield. The window chrome trim is in good shape but does have some scratches that I would expect from a car this age. (NOTE: Pictures show the car without running boards but they have since been installed. You can see part of it on the picture of the Campagnolo wheel.)
Interior- The interior is in very nice shape. It has all the original panels, carpet, and headliner are all in very nice shape! The dash does have the standard crack to the left of the clock and the one just above the glove box, and some small pin holes. They could probably be repaired but I am afraid it will look worse than the cracks. The seats are Flowfit sport seats and are in good shape and are amazingly comfortable. All gauges and lights work accept for the clock. All vent selectors work. Heater works very well and blower motor works and is quiet! This car has the blinker on the right side of the steering column (1973 only) and I absolutely love it! The left hand never leaves the steering wheel! The interior is complemented by a period correct MoMo Prototipo Steering wheel and rounds out the whole package perfect!! The wing windows and roll up windows work smoothly and all seals are in decent shape. The car leaks no water to the inside as the floors are dry and solid!! The trunk also is very solid with no sign of rust. It has the original gray wrapped plywood floor boards and carpet cover. It has the original spare, jack, and tire iron but it is missing the tool kit. Additional Information From Current Owner
When I got the car, I was very happy with the purchase! To make it even better mechanically, I had Bill Holmes (google his name and you will see he is the 2002 guru here on the West Coast... he currently maintains my Polaris Factory 2002 Turbo!!!) at Bavarian Rennsport in San Diego look over the car and make any additional adjustments he sees fit. $3,200 in parts and labor later, the car is now mechanically beautiful! One of the main thing we added was an MSD 6 to increase horsepower. (If you'd like a copy of the workorder, let me know.) In Bill's own words, "The car now performs as Hans the BMW engineer had intended it!!! :)"
The reason I'm selling this car is my Turbo is currently in the process of getting an expensive paint job. Otherwise, this INKA would have been in my garage for a long long time. If you’re a serious buyer and would like to discuss the car with Bill, please let me know and I will put you in contact with him. I want to respect to his time so I don’t want to connect him with those who are not serious. Or if you would like to arrange a time to inspect the car personally, please email me.

I've had questions about the engine number and if it matches the VIN. I verified that the two numbers do match.
