OVERVIEW
Offered here for an appreciating new owner is one rare collectible classic 1973 BMW 2002 two-door sedan.
This is the automobile that put BMW on the map. A heritage of high performance is its legacy. This quality German automobile invented the 'sports sedan' and launched BMW's reputation as it is known for today. Every BMW built since can trace its roots to the famous 2002. Finished in the original Verona red paint over BMW cord-cloth black sport interior. This single owner vehicle is fine rust-free example featuring the 2.0 liter four cylinder engine mated to a 4 speed manual transmission. This car has been garaged since the day it left the dealership and all maintenance and repair records (including the original bill of sale) are available from me, the original owner. The non-working odometer shows 47035 miles which reflects the actual mileage of this car minus about 1000 miles. Consumer Reports magazine recently voted the 'BMW 2002 one of the top ten most influential automobiles of the last 50 years. And Automobile Magazine also named the 2002 on their list of the 100 coolest cars ever!
THE BODY, PAINT TRIM
The exterior of this 1973 BMW 2002 is in excellent condition throughout with a VERY nice shine to the paint finish with very clean chrome trim throughout, lots of luster and depth! Clear coat is just like a mirror. This car is 100% rust-free structurally AND cosmetically! The car went through a major overhaul in 1992 and has never even been through a automatic car wash. It has one dent/scratch on the rear bumper (see picture). But the floors, rockers and the underside of the car is in very good shape!! The glass is in good shape The window chrome trim is in good shape but does have some scratches that you would expect from a car this age.
INSIDE THE CAR
As I hope is articulately represented in the photos, the interior of this car is in good to very good condition, The interior is in very nice shape. It has all the original panels, carpet, and headliner are all in very nice shape!. All vent selectors work. Heater works very well and blower motor works and is quiet! The hazards and turn signals work normally. The wing windows and roll up windows work smoothly and all seals are in excellent shape. all the emblems are in good condition, the only one that may need some attention is the 2002 emblem is faded but stills ok..The car leaks no water to the inside as the floors are dry and solid!! The trunk also is very solid with no sign of rust with newer seal. It has the original black wrapped plywood floor boards and carpet cover. It has the original spare, jack, tire iron and includes the original tool kit.
THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE
This is an extremely good, very tight and crisp-driving example with smooth and very strong responsive acceleration, crisp and smooth shifting transmission, very good true braking and tight yet supple suspension with superb highway stability tracking! The Overall this is a very peppy, willing and fun car to drive.
THE MECHANICALS
Mechanically this car is in very good to excellent condition throughout with recent major tune-up. The original carburetor was replaced with a Weber carb but I still have the original which will be provided to the new owner. The exhaust is a free flow exhaust, for better acceleration and a better sound. I have all repair and maintenance records on file and can vouch for most of what I remember over the 35 year life of this car.
