This is a remarkably clean, stock 1979 e21 with a 2.0L engine and Getrag 4-speed transmission with 105k miles. I am the third owner and it has been babied its entire life, rarely seeing snow. It was purchased in MI by its first owner and transferred to WI by its second owner in 2000. I have all records for the vehicle going back to the purchase date.
I previously kept a 1973 Alfa Spider. With my first kid, available time to fix it dwindled to nothing and I happened upon this car about 9 months ago (the PO, who lives three blocks from me, was juggling three cars himself. One being a Z4, he needed garage space). I just had my second kid and now need even more time and garage space. Sadly, the Bimmer needs to go.
The car is in amazing shape and deserves a home where somebody appreciates it. It is a true 320i, 2.0L, before they turned them to 1.8L. It would be extremely easy to lower it, put euro bumpers on it and just drive enjoy it.
The good:
This car is in almost perfect condition for being almost 30 years old. It has never been in an accident, has no structural rust or bondo, and paint shows only expected rock chip wear. The car is almost completely stock, with the only exception being the radio (upgraded to a Sony CD player). The engine runs strong and has not been tampered with. The interior is in beautiful condition, with no sun wear (POs have always put a sun shade in while parking). Even the wheels are in good condition, with the wheel caps still in place on all four. The car has recently gotten a new starter motor (2007), lower control arm sway bar bushings (2006), replace heater cable (2005), re-padded driver seat (2000).
The bad:
All known problems: There is a rust bubble along the right rear window and some rust along the driver rocker panel (see picture -- looks easily fixed). The trunk has a minor leak (looks easily fixed). There is an extremely small oil leak that will leave a spot on the ground but not leak anything noticable (the PO said it's been doing this for years). The air conditioning worked last summer but now needs a recharge. The brakes probably need new pads (the PO took it to a garage that recommended a full brake job "soon". I know the garage and think they're EXTREMELY overpriced, but have not followed up with another evaluation). Reverse lights work intermittently.
