I got the car with a bad Trans, I installed an M3 Auto Trans, drive shaft, shifter, trans coupling, New Battery and the chrome wheels. It has been sitting on the shop for a while now collecting dust, as I lost interest and the time to finish it.
I have been in touch with a BMW salvage on the west coast which has experience with the iS auto to M3 auto conversion. According to them, the only 2 parts missing to finish the conversion are the instrument cluster (Dunno why) and the wiring to the trans, since they are different.
Just in case you are wondering this iS BMW came with a GM trans from the factory known to have many problems (as we know now), rather than replace it with the same problematic trans, I got an M3 BMW German made trans that is not only stronger but longer lasting.
The new Trans is installed, all the hard work is done, the exhaust and intake (to get to the top of trans) need to be installed.
Or if you choose to, you can convert the car to a 5 speed for about $1,000 commonly done. Could be a perfect candidate for auto cross.
The other 2 things that I need to make a perfect car is the driver door handle (outside), the M3 auto shifter knob and a good detaling in and out. All the parts to finish the are less than $700 if you do the work yourself. This car all fixed up will be worth $5,000+!!! Besides all the parts I put into it, the previous owner replaced many other parts right before I got it, including all houses, water pump and radiator.
This vehicle is not operational. Therefore, upon purchase, it will need to be either towed or put on a trailer.
