Vehicle Description
1989 Cadillac Allante Convertible
You are bidding on a 1989 Cadillac Allante Convertible. It is red with tan interior. It comes with a red hard-top and the cloth top color is black. I has 132,996 miles and I have a clear Iowa title in hand and ready for the new owner. I originally purchased this car as a project to restore however I have accumulated way too many projects and have no time to complete this. I am selling this car with NO RESERVE and the highest bidder wins. You will notice in the pictures that there is no damage on the car except for the last few pictures. I was going to sell this car last year and took the pictures a day before a nasty ice storm. I had a tree fall on the car and damaged the hood, hard top, and trunk. The rest of the car still looks the same. I have close up pictures of the damage also listed.
THE GOOD: The car runs and drives in its present condition. The digital dash works great, the computer console and stereo work great (never tried the tape player and needs a new antenna), the engine is very strong – hit the gas and the tires will spin. It is NOT the northstar engine. Power windows, wipers, lights, and locks all work fine. Engine does not leak oil and does not smoke. Starts right up every time. Has a fresh tune up and a new starter.
THE BAD: There is a power steering leak and empties out the reservoir about once a week. Damage to the hood, hard-top, and trunk from tree falling on it. Power antenna for radio does not work, A/C works but does not blow cold – heat works fine. A couple of small blemishes on the soft top but for the most part is in very good condition. Tires are at about 50%. Many paint blemishes – small scratches – chips in paint. Some tears in seats. Trim molding on door panel and on the shifter is broken. Wheels not perfect, with some discoloration on the plastic centers. Car computer says the ride control (the SDD system) is not working. Some of the power seat adjustments do not work however the important ones (such as the recline and seat forward and backwards) do. The cruise control does not work either.
THE UGLY: The car runs and drives however the biggest problem is the transmission. It will not shift into overdrive (4th gear). It will go about 55-60 m.p.h. It shifts fine through 3rd gear and reverse. The top speed is limited because at 55-60 the rpm’s start getting a little high so I don’t push it. Now here is the strange thing… That is how it works with the ABS brake system fuse taken out. With the ABS fuse in place, it will shift through first gear fine but when it goes to change into second gear, it goes into neutral. Weird! That is why I think the transmission may be ok and there could be a switch or computer problem somewhere. I never found the problem but then again never looked very hard into it.
Again, this car is a project car so it is far from perfect, however with a little work this car can be brought back to its previous glory. Before the damage I drove it all the time just the way it was with all of the little problems. Even with the damage it is still drivable and the hood still latches and unlatches with no problem. Worst case if you did not want to restore it you could always part it out. All of the expensive parts (digital dash, center computer console, hard-top) are working fine and could bring some big $$$ on ebay. If you wanted you could drive it home however keep in mind you will need to stay at or under 55 mph to be safe.
I have bought and sold many cars on ebay with mostly good results however I have had a couple of bad experiences too. I want to assure you that I have been as honest as possible with my description and definitely don’t want any disappointments. That is why I make this offer, as should everyone who sells a car on ebay. When you come to get the car, if it is not exactly as I described you don’t have to purchase it. Look it over good, take it for a test drive, make sure everything I state is correct. I don’t want any hard feelings and want to make sure you are happy with your purchase. Purchasing a car over ebay sight unseen is risky so I want to make it as easy as possible. I have sold a number of cars on ebay with all positive feedback so feel good about bidding on this car! All I ask is to pick it up and pay for it within a week (cash or paypal only) or we can make other arrangements agreeable to both parties. If a longer time is required, a $200 deposit will be needed which is refundable if the car is not as I stated.
Thanks and please email me with any questions.
