Vehicle Description
Cruise in style this summer!
What you are looking at is a 1965 Sedan DeVille Cadillac 'convertible' choptop. This would make a great parade vehicle or just a fun car for the summer. Please be aware that this is not an actual convertible. The top has been removed and has been customized to appear as if it were a convertible.
The car runs great, it has had all new tires and new front and rear brakes within the last 1000 miles. It does burn a slight amount of oil. I have not concerned myself too much with this as I typically take it for relatively short trips and just periodically check the oil. I have however taken a 500+ plus trip with it and consider it very reliable.
The history of the car as I know it: To my knowledge this is the 3rd time the cadillac has been listed on ebay. I first saw it about 5 years ago, bid on it and lost the auction. I regretted not winning and was fortunate enough to spot it listed here again about 3 years ago. The details given in the first listing that I saw stated that it had been customized by a group of Shriners in Texas who used it for parades etc. It was then purchased by someone who used it as a business vehicle for some type of delivery service (flowers? I don't know - it was called the Kiss car).
Whoever did the work has done a good job. It is not simply as if the top has been cut off. The edges have been smoothed, the back boot was installed, etc. and from a 15 foot distance it certainly appears to be a convertible.
The interior is in fair to good shape. The leather upholstery has begun to separate a bit from the seams on the top of the seats. The seats are, however, in pretty good shape. You should be able to see this in some photos. The gauges all work, with the exception of the clock. It has the original radio but it does not work. The 'windshield' is really plexiglass - since the top was removed obviously that included the windshield. The plexiglass can be removed if desired as it is attached with nuts at the bottom right in front of the edge of the hood.
The body of the car is really in great shape. No rust issues that I can see. I have always had the car garaged since I have had it and, as stated before, it spent at least part of its previous life in Texas. The paint is in good condition. Up close there are a few small chips but it is really very good. At 10 feet it looks perfect. The worst cosmetic flaw is on the top of the fin on the drivers side. I have included a photo of this. There are 2 small dents there. No idea how this happened, it was like that when I got it. I am sure someone with a little experience in bodywork could fix it easily.
I have no idea of the actual mileage on the car. The odometer reads about 26,000. That's obviously not correct. I also believe the engine has either been replaced or rebuilt at some point in time. It really runs good.
The car does come with a well used but serviceable car cover for getting caught in the rain or temporary overnight storage, etc.
A note on the photos: All of these photos were taken the same day - the same day of this listing. Unfortunately I failed to set the date on my camera. Later, when I realized the wrong date was on the photos, I took several more so you don't think you are looking at the car as it looked several years ago. These are new photos (with the exception of the 2 photos with the girls - taken 2 years ago) This car is in good shape. If you would like more photos of something specific, please let me know and I will try to post them here.
This is definitely a fun car to drive and gets a lot of looks. I have had fun owning it and have had no mechanical problems with it. I would keep it but I am going overseas and can't justify paying storage fees for something that is really just a toy for me.
I am going overseas soon so please plan to pick the car up soon if you are the winning bidder. Also please note that a deposit is required within 48 hours of the auction close. I could possibly arrange to have it stored at a friends for a later pickup but I would feel more comfortable if you could arrange to pick it up within a week or so of winning the auction. Also - should you want the car delivered somewhere between Northern Michigan and the Eastern half of Nebraska, I may be able to deliver it to you for .30 a mile plus a ride to the nearest airport or rental care agency. If you're interested in this option - please discuss it with me prior to placing a bid as I will have to see if this is possible with my schedule. Please do not ask me to help you arrange shipping overseas.
The reserve price is low and quite reasonable - less than I purchased it for - plus it now has new tires and brakes.
Good Luck!
******* Note: This is the second listing for this item. The 'winning bidder' on the first auction was not serious and failed to pay. I would like to sell this before I leave the country, please be serious when bidding! ***
