Vehicle Description
1959 Chevrolet Apache Truck I have known this truck since 1982. It belonged to a friend of mine’s older brother, he got it from his uncle in the late 70’s and the uncle purchased it from the government military surplus sometime in the 60’s. To the best of knowledge this truck has never been wrecked, I know not since ’82 anyway.
The gentleman I bought the truck from had the current paint job done in 1991 along with a new oak bed and stainless strips installed. The bumpers and grille were re-chromed then also. In 2001 he commissioned me to set the body off the frame and to install a late model engine, transmission, suspension and brakes. About halfway through the project his wife became pregnant with twins and the truck was stored in his shop until last fall when I purchased the truck from him.
The engine is a 305 Tuned Port Injection engine from a white 1986 Z-28 Camaro with a 700R4 overdrive transmission. Both are rebuilt and fresh. The engine is .030 over with flat top pistons instead of the factory dish pistons. The camshaft is a new Melling Performance #MTC-1 for an 85-86 Corvette and a Melling Performance Hi-Volume oil pump. The pistons, rings and engine bearings are all Speed-Pro with Fel-Pro gaskets. New A/C Delco injectors. The exhaust is ceramic-coated Headman shorty header with 2¼” flow master copy mufflers. The serpentine belt system is from Alan Grove Components with new A/C Delco pulleys. Chrome oil pan, timing cover, Billet Specialties valve covers, KN, Castrol, Wix, Gates Belts Hoses and new Bosch and A/C Delco engine sensors.
The rear end is out of a 1981 Turbo Trans-Am. It is a limited slip rear end with disc brakes. The rear end has a new Richmond 3.73 gear installed by an ASE certified mechanic at the local Chevrolet dealership. It also has new rotors, pads and calipers with emergency brakes. The pinion was set with new leaf spring pads. The drive shaft has new U-joints and has been balanced.
The body was set off the chassis, sandblasted, etch primed and painted chassis black. The frame was checked for squareness and look to have never had any frame damage. The front suspension is a new Total Cost Involved complete unit with cross member, dropped spindles, power rack and pinion, tubular upper and lower control arms, disc brakes and sway bar. The rear suspension is a new Total Cost Involved complete rear leaf spring set-up. The truck also has a Total Cost Involved power disc brake pedal assembly under the floor.
New American Racing Equipment polished Torqu-Thrust wheels: 17 x 7 up front with new 225/50R17 Goodyear Responsive Edge tires. And 18 x 8 Reverse Hoop rear wheels with new 255/55R18 Goodyear Responsive Edge tires on the rear.
A new Walker Z-Core radiator cools the engine with a SPAL electric fan, relay and fan harness along with a new reverse flow water pump. The truck has a new “Sure-Fit” Vintage-Air A/C, heat and defrost unit. New Sanden 508 air compressor with Gates hoses. This thing throws snowballs.
A new Tanks brand poly fuel tank handles the fuel with an electric fuel pump, sending unit, new steel lines and a new A/C Delco fuel pressure regulator.
The interior has new black vinyl upholstery with new black carpet, door, window and vent window handles. The driver side has new door and window mechanisms. The gage cluster is the original but has been rebuilt, calibrated, silk screened, chromed and new glass installed by United Speedometer in California. A new Newport Engineering wiper motor and switch. The stereo is a Kenwood AM/FM Cassette. The interior also has new Lokar Products, throttle pedal, throttle cable, kickdown cable, emergency brake cables, throttle bracket and shifter linkage.
A new Flaming River tilt column with shifter and Flaming River U-joints handles the steering. A rebuilt power steering pump with a RB’s flow control valve. A new black leather wrapped Lecarra Corvette style 3-spoke steering wheel, adapter and horn button top off the steering.
The engine harness is from Street Performance with a new reprogrammed waterproof computer mounted under the seat. The truck harness is a new 21-circuit EZ Wiring harness with a 105amp CS130 alternator, starter and a new 860CCA battery.
The truck has several products from Classic Truck Parts of American: hood hinge assemblies, interior handles, speedometer cable, turn signal lenses, tag bracket etc. This truck has lots of name brand product on it and I have probably missed some of them.
This truck rides, drives and sounds really good. This truck has less than 100 miles on it. For the money you cannot come close to building a truck like this for the money. I have most all the receipts that total more than the Buy-Now Price. I have also built a notebook for this truck to include: installation instructions, replacement part numbers, wiring schematics and computer information.
