Vehicle Description
Up for your consideration is this beautiful 1978 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham sedan.
Mechanicals: This car is equipped with a 440 c.i.d. V-8 engine with a new Edelbrock 600 cfm carburator. According to reciepts, the carb is less than a year old, transmission was rebuilt approximately 10 years ago, newer power brake booster, exhaust manifold gaskets have been replaced and the car has had the usual routine maintenance performed. The 440 runs smooth and strong and the transmission shifts as it should. The car passed current Colorado state emissions test in December 2007. I have the original Thermo-Quad carburator and an additional parts carburator. The "LeanBurn" system has been removed and the ignition system has been converted to a regular electronic system. The only apparent fluid leak is the shift-shaft seal on the transmission and it leaks transmission fluid. Exhaust system is approximately a year old as well and is fitted with a Magnaflow muffler. According to reciepts the u-joints have been replaced as well as front brake pads, ball joints, alignment and rear axle seals and a rear axle bearing replaced. From all appearances this car has been well maintained and has had parts replacement performed when needed. Tires are approximately 10 years old, but are in good condition and have 50-60% tread life remaining. I believe the odometer to be correct based upon wear and reciepts in the glove compartment but I do not know if it has "turned over".
Exterior: The exterior color is light-green metallic with a dark-green vinyl top. The top is in good condition with only some shrinkage at the corners of the left and right sail panels. The paint on the trunk and hood has some oxidation, but still has some sheen to it. The previous owner told me the paint on the sides was in descent condition, but the man he purchased the car from had scratched the sides while it sat under a carport. The previous owner then removed all the emblems and trim, prepped the sides, painted it a darker green and re-installed all the emblems and trim. There was rust in the left rear quarter panel, the previous owner cut the rust out and installed a patch panel and sealed it. (See photos) The right rear quarter panel still has rust, but the previous owner cut a sheetmetal panel as an insert in the trunk. There is no water penetration in the trunk when you drive the car in rain. I have had the car on a lift and I didn't see any other rust anywhere underneath. The car has a very clean undercarriage. This car also came with the chrome Rally Wheels. All center caps and trim rings are present and in good condition. All chrome and brightwork is present and in good condition as well. The fender skirts are rust free and fit properly. The headlamp doors and all their hardware are present and currently need to be opened and closed manually. I believe the limiting switch is bad in the door motor. I purchased a used motor and all the hardware from a salvage yard a few weeks ago which will go with the car. The torsion bars will need to be re-installed in the deck lid. One of the previous owners removed tham and never put them back, they are in the trunk. There is some minor body damage to the right-rear door and quarter panel. It appears as someone got too close to another object and deformed the door and quarter slightly. I have another marker lamp to replace the one on the right-rear quarter, it has slight damage as well.
Interior: The interior is in good shape for a 30 year-old car. The leather seats are in good condition. No tears are visible in the seats. Carpet is in good condition with a small tear on the driver's side floor board. Padded dash is not cracked. All door panels are in good condition with only minor wear on the driver's side front door panel. The previous owner used silicone to seal the tears in the armrest and to keep it from spreading. Both power seats work. All dash gauges work accurately. Speedomoter and odometer work as well. All power windows work with the exception of the passenger side front window. I was given the kit to repair the motor and that will be included with the car. The headliner material must have been sagging at some point and someone removed it. The blank cardboard backing is present and in good condition for re-covering. The steering column features tilt and telescopic and it is tight. The cruise does not currently work nor does the air conditioning. The a/c will need to have the evaporator core re-installed. I also have it and it will be included. The climate control will need work to get working to factory specs. The heater works and is controlled with a toggle switch on the lower part of the dash. A valve has been installed under the hood to shut off coolant flow to the heater core in the summer. Heat will fill the cabin through the defroster vents and the floor vents. Rear defogger works well. All interior and dash lights are operable except for the driver's side door courtesey lamp. I also believe the driver's side dome switch to be bad also. The car features an Audiovox AM/FM cassette player stereo whch looks to be from the early 1980's and works well. I have never tried a cassette tape in the player though.
Overall this car is a teriffic vehicle and it drives wonderfully! I have driven it on several trips that are over 150 miles round-trip and it has always run great. I am unable to keep the car due to storage issues, that is my reason for selling it. It is too nice to be made into a demo-derby car!! This is a great daily driver or minor restoration project. I have accumulated boxes of extra parts from lenses to a headlamp motor to the original type "Sonic-Tune" radio which will be included with the car. Also included will be a fitted Covercraft "Block-It" car cover which is less than 6 months old.
