When the new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 debuted at the SEMA show in Las Vegas on October 30, 2007, sitting on the stage with the new Challenger was this incredible custom 1970 Dodge Challenger Hemi 5 Speed!
Combining the best of the old with the best of the new, this fantastic, one of a kind custom is more than just another resto-mod. This Hemi Challenger represents modern engineering at its finest, with form function melded together to create a car that can perform at a high level, with modern reliability.
Beginning with a plain jane 6 cylinder 1970 Dodge Challenger, which no Mopar fan out there would ever take the time or money to restore (so please save your emails), this long-forgotten Challenger was transformed into a sleek and menacing custom, with features including: smoothed and flush fit body, with custom designed grill and tail panel; narrowed molded bumpers; hidden fuel filler, and; flush fit tinted glass with flush weather-strip. Also present is a fully functional custom Ram Air hood.
The Challenger is painted in Black Pearl with Olive Sandstone highlights. The top surfaces are straight Black Pearl, while the side panels have the Olive Sandstone metal flake. The end result is absolutely stunning!
Equally impressive is the customer designed interior. The bucket and rear seats were covered with VP Back Spinney beck luxury leather, with Marima suede inserts. The carpeting used is 100% Wilton wool (black), with Dynamat sound and heat insulation throughout the cabin. The custom designed dash includes a full set of gauges, and a customized, high end audio/video system, capable of playing both CDs and DVDs. The pistol grip shifter pays homage to the original Challenger nicely. Also present are power windows, power door locks and latches.
The engine is the heart of this incredible custom. A Mopar Performance 426 CID Street Hemi, dynoed at 575 HP, provides enough power for any kind of driving! Topped by a Hilborn multi-port fuel injection system, this engine behaves much like a modern engine. An electronic ignition provides additional reliability, assuring smooth starts and reliable firing. Custom features include a serpentine pulley system and custom fabricated single piece headers. The headers feed a custom bent 2 1/2" stainless steel exhaust, which sounds incredible!
The Hemi feeds a Tremec TKO five speed manual transmission, with a .60 overdrive gear. A McLeod hydraulic clutch was used to provide for precise shifting. The rear end is comprised of a Ford 9" center section, with a 3.73 positraction gear.
Tubular control arms with custom half shafts were installed, as were fully adjustable QAI coil-over shocks. The rear suspension is filly adjustable fully independent. The custom features continue onto the chassis, where custom designed frame connectors were installed. A custom-designed K frame was utilized as well. A fully adjustable, fully independent rear suspension, with tubular a-arms was used, to provide a modern handling experience.
This Challenger stops thanks to Wilwood 13" rotors up front and Wilwood 10.5" rotors in the rear. All four have four piston calipers. The rear disc brakes feature an inboard design.
The Challenger rolls on Symbolic TS15 20" wheels, mated to Pirelli P-Zero high performance street radials, 245/35/20 in the rear, and 275/35/20 up front. In short, this isn't your typical Hemi Challenger clone!
In a few months, the streets will be buzzing with the 2008 Dodge Challenger. And, before long, everyone will be stifling yawns as they begin to see them everywhere. The proud new owner of this custom, one-off showpiece won't have that problem. This is a spectacular, engineered car, which combines the visual elements of the original Challenger with the best performance options on today's market. Take this incredible car on the Hot Rod Power Tour, drag race it, show, cruise it, look at it ... whatever you do with it, it's up to the task, and this Challenger can never and will never be duplicated. This car can be inspected at our 17000 square foot facility in Mentor, Ohio, six days per week. For those of you who need to fly in, we can provide transportation to and from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. We can also provide accommodations within walking distance of our facility.
We can transport your vehicle to you in an enclosed carrier. Cost depends on mileage and location.
