Vehicle Description Are we marketing geniuses, trendsetters ahead of our time or are we just plain nuts? When I saw IROC after IROC stream into this place, I didn’t know what to think. Now that they roll out just as quickly I learned to trust the boss. So here we have another hero of the 80’s—the Dodge Daytona Turbo Z. This was Dodge’s front line street fighter, and it did a lot better than rear wheel drive Camaro and Mustang owners are willing to admit. The one shown here is the desirable 5 speed model, and it’s a 99% original, 10,400 mile one owner car that’s immaculate! Don’t laugh—an awful lot of people remember these cars fondly, and mass appeal is what makes a lot of cars collectables! Purchased new on August 10, 1985, a young man named Mark drove away from Pittsburgh area Burgunder Motors in his new Turbo Z with a loan secured with his parents as cosigners. A little over $2500 down left him with five years’ worth of $259 monthly payments. We have the full finance agreement paperwork, the bill of sale, the odometer statement, the extended warranty forms, pre purchase inspection form, the receipt for the down payment and the bills of sale. Carfax showed no issues and tracks one title change in 1992 when Mark put the car into his name exclusively, and one title change in 1998 when he moved. He obviously intended to care for his car from new, as there were only 3018 miles on the car at title transfer time in 1992! Inside and out the car’s a time capsule. The exterior finish is near perfect, the lights and lenses clear, the satin black trim looking like it had never been exposed to UV rays. The front air dam and side skirts, so often chewed up on these cars, are all perfect. Perfect aluminum wheels with no corrosion or curb rash hold their original 205/60/15 Goodyear Eagle GT HR tires which still have plenty of tread. All glass is perfect, the original power mirrors work as designed and the sunroof cranks up as new. Inside, you’re sitting on seats that feel brand new. If you’ve ever had one of these, you know how the side bolsters hold you in at the expense if comfort. Well, that’s not the way it’s supposed to be—there’s plenty of padding but it expires quickly as the cars march towards 100,000 miles—and these seats are comfy! The leather wrapping on the steering wheel is perfect and attaches to a tilt column. Full instrumentation takes on new meaning with a tach and oil pressure, water temperature, fuel level and volt gauge joined by a boost gauge and clock/chronograph in the center of the dash! I’d never noticed the rear fold-down sun visors before, either, and that’s a nice feature for a hatchback like this. An AM/FM cassette plays all of your 80’s favorites while a rear defroster seems moot considering that the car doesn’t look like it ever saw foul weather! Underneath looks like it’s sat outside for a month and a half, tops. Like, go back to 1986, find one on the lot, and look underneath. It’s that clean. The usually missing downpipe wrap is still there, leading exhaust through the original catalytic converter and pipes to the original resonator and exhaust tip. Many components still retain their original part number tags…did I mention it was clean under here? Open the hood and see what Mark saw in 1986. Sure, there’s a new Mopar battery in here, but those are the original hoses, belts, plug wires and just about everything else. All paper and foil tags are intact, and I’ve never seen a Daytona like this with all of its original zinc and cad plating intact! Heck—even the A/C compressor is shiny! The aluminum valve cover and matching air filter housing are just as clean, too! I hadn’t driven a Turbo I car in so long I’d forgotten just how smooth and quiet they were with low miles. With no intercooler, power comes on at low RPM’s and very cleanly thanks to the small compressor and short charge system piping. You can barely hear it run, let alone spool up, and there’s simply a constant supply of power from 2200RPM up. Again, a Camaro might have been a few ticks quicker to 60, but at the expense of the more refined delivery and the European inspired ride. There’s more than enough power for effortless driving as well as pulling away from most of today’s compact and midsize models. How many 22 year old cars can claim that? Getting to see the boss’s view yet? I can see it…I needed to spend some time with the car, remembering how I’d seen so many as a kid, and how they’ve all seemed to disappear, just like clean F bodies and Foxes. I’d tell you to pack it away and see what happens, but I think we both know how well this will end… Money is flooding into the collector car market right now ... as the value of paper assets continues to plummet ... where do you want your family’s wealth? Pick something that can't be debased by stupidity, short-term thinking and outright theft! Please note that all sales are binding and final. Our cars are sold "as-is" with no warranty expressed or implied. Please carefully read the terms conditions of the sale before bidding. Winning this auction does not entitle you to come inspect the car and decide if you want to buy it, but obligates you to complete the purchase!
