1986 FERRARI TESTAROSSA #64431
VIN: ZFFTA17B000064431
This is a 1986 Ferrari Testarossa, euro model that needs transmission work. It is sold as-is with no warranty, but I welcome inspections and I'm happy to provide information on the car's history and current condition so you can decide for yourself if it is the car for you. Upgraded and used transmissions are available.
The Transmission:
The transmission started making noise 3 months ago under acceleration in 2nd gear. This is a known, and increasingly common problem on Testarossas. I drove it 2 miles and parked it. My mechanic (at Competizione) later verified that 2nd gear came apart. Only 2nd gear appears to be damaged and the car is actually drivable (though, you probably would not want to). If the car does not sell I will pay to have it repaired and keep it, but I had been wanting to sell it and get a Ferrari spider of some sort. Upgraded and used transmissions are available. Without looking for myself, I was offered a replacement transmission for $7,000, better deals are probably available, or you can probably rebuild the transmission with the updated parts.
General Information
When it came out, the Testarossa was the fastest production car in the world, and you can feel it when you drive it. It is very quick, especially in euro trim, and it still causes a scene wherever it goes. The car is much more agile and nimble than it looks, but from the rear that wide rump is menacing. The high pitched whine of that flat12 engine at speed resembles an older F1 car. The Testarossa is now, and will always be one of the most loved Ferraris.
This particular car is a driver in good condition. It has always been driven regularly and serviced on time. Other than aftermarket pedals and the removal of the "cheesegrater" strakes, this car is an unmolested euro, as enzo intended. I have the strakes, which can easily be replaced if you prefer it. The catalytic converter for the exhaust is flanged and test pipes that fit are included too. It last had a major service at Grand Touring 12/12/2003. The wheels are the desirable 16" OEM wheels, fitted with Toyo Proxy RA1's.
Euro Model?
Don't fear the euro. Do the research-- The euro model is significantly lighter, more powerful and faster than the US version and it sounds better. I have releases from DOT and EPA, which I obtained from Dick Merritt. I can provide my copies of these releases and you can verify it yourself with the VIN number.
Included with car
Side strakes, catalytic converter test pipes, additional federalized headers/exhaust, tools, jack, owners manual, copies of shop manuals and parts books, and all books and service records, Car cover, seat covers, dash cover, Extra floor mats.
