1964 Series 1 3.8L Jaguar E-type VIN# 881531 The Jaguar E Type of course needs little introduction, but the late (great) Henry Manney’s quote; “The Greatest Crumpet Collector Known To Man”, sums it up nicely. Watch the YouTube video, and tell me you don’t want this car! Of all the Jaguar E Type variants, there is a strong argument that a 3.8L Series One Roadster is the most desirable. The purity of the original body with covered headlights and delicate detailing, the free-revving nature of the 3.8 in-line 6, and the elegance of the early interior make for an extremely desirable car. With the dramatic rise in values of period Ferraris, Mercedes, Maserati, Aston Martin etc., there is little doubt that the best of the early E Types will increase in value. This is a great place to park some money. This particular car has had the benefit of a cost-no-object, nut-and-bolt rotissarie restoration by marque specialists, Coachwerks, in Victoria, BC. Photos of the work in progress can be seen at coachwerks.com/new/gallery_british.htm It is a fully sorted car, with 3,500mi since the restoration. It has some sympathetic upgrades including wider 15” wheels, Willwood brakes, upgraded radiator fans, conversion to an alternator from a generator, and nylon suspension bushings. It also has a later E Type 4sp Syncro gearbox installed, although the car comes with the original Moss box. The car has all original major components, with the exception of the engine block, which has been substituted for a replacement 3.8L block. The numbers-matching original block is included, though it is damaged. Critically on an E Type the bonnet fit and door shut-lines are excellent and almost certainly better than when the car left the factory. The car is, for all intent and purposes, flawless. On extremely close examination, on my hands and knees, I did notice a slight hair-line crack, less than one 1cm, on the bottom trailing edge corner (photographed) of the passenger door. That’s it. This is an opportunity to purchase a “Concours” example of a very desirable specification early E Type that has had the benefit of having some sympathetic upgrades, and being properly run in and fully sorted. It is ready to enjoy. I am selling the car for a well-known Calgary collector who is rationalizing his collection. It is located and registered in Calgary Canada. Any inspection is welcome. Shipping is easily arranged. For payment, a $2,500 deposit is required within 3 days of auction close, and the balance by Bank Draft within 1 week.
