1972 Silver/Gold Trimmed Jaguar XJ6 Sedan - Ultimate Color from Ultimate Production Year
This is a beautiful example of the Series 1 XJ6 in the ultimate color scheme from the ultimate year of its existence. Quite frankly, few things look better passing you in the highway than this- dual gas tanks, rear antenna and all.
Pedal to the metal begets a real growl that other jags never had due to the chevrolet 350 V8 Motor conversion and a turbo 350 transmission via Johns Car Kits. The rear end was rebuilt about 9 years ago for smooth travel. This would make a marvelous platform for a partial or complete restoration. I drove this for several years for pleasure cruising. It was then stored for 7 years. It could be that cool cruiser for you too with a little summer love.
Body- generally intact, with silver paint and factory gold trim kit, accenting the chrome. Defects include a small dent on the front right quarter panel (1/2"), some surface rust, a hairline bondo crack by the front right headlight and a single 3" rusthole below the front left rocker panel. While in storage, someone keyed the paint, so some paint will ultimately be required. The car comes with a new Jaguar winshield seal kit.
The interior is navy blue vinyl in relatively good condition. The rear armrests need to be replaced and the window motors should be lubricated/excersized. The headliner is grey.
Mechanically, the 350 V8 could be tuned up a bit, the brakes and the power steering leak- you'll want to trailer this home, unless you rebuild the calipers first. A Jag Caliper Rebiuld kit along with pads comes with the car. The car sits on stamped chrome wheels with Pirelli tires. Most of the guages are not connected due to the chevy motor, albeit I ran it that way for several years with no issues. The temperature guage is accurate and connected.
Electricals are typical for this age car- lights work, it needs a new rear antenna for its stereo AM/FM radio.
In summary, this requires some love before driving, but is an increasingly-rare example of the Jaguar mainstay, clearly the best year this Series 1 model was built.
