1933 MG J2 Midget with Swept Fender -Extrenely Rare and valuable car, Great Investment!
BEST OF SHOW and AWARD OF EXCELLENCE at the British Car Show at Fort Meigs, Nr Toledo, OH June 1st, 2008
Here is an extremely rare opportunity to purchase a piece of British Motoring History, I am listing a 1933 MG J2 Midget for sale, what makes this car unique is that it is one of only a few J2 that where built with swept fenders. The J2 was the first MG production car in the MMM family with swept fenders, it preceeded the MG PA and paved the the way to the more well known T Series MG's. This particular car was cherished by its previous owner for 34 years and prior to that was owned by a high ranking officer in the armed forces that spent some time in Santiago, Chile where the MG also spent a portion of its life, I have shipping papers from Chile. Included in this listing is a historic photograph of a J2 and a photograph of the car retrieved from a South American website it shows the car with an Indiana license plate. Also included is an article from a British Motoring magazine published by Moss Motors dated 2001 that features the car on the left page, the article also shows that the car won a best in class award for Pre War /Vintage MG's.
The J2 is fitted with a 847 cc high compression OHV engine and four speed manual transmission, twin SU carburettors and is capable of top speed of 80 mph (down hill) the braking system is operated by bowden cables.
The exterior is finished in a two tone color combination per original specifications the color scheme is Carmine Red - Fenders and Saratoga Red - Body and Wheels. The upholstry is Deep Red in color.
The car was restored by the previous owner, I would estimate the work was done about 8 to 10 years ago, the paintwork is in very nice condition with a few minor nicks here and there as one would expect with an older restoration and Sunday driving. The carpets and upholstry are in very good condition, the chromework is in excellent condition. I have spent a considerable amount of time detailing the car already, this includes buffing the exterior paintwork, cleaning and detailing the engine bay, polishing the chromework and removing and cleaning the upholstry and carpets. The photographs where taken at a local British Car show a few weeks ago.
This is a RH drive car built for the UK market only, then exported to the USA at some later date. It was the second out of a batch of 10 cars that were manufactured on October 16th, 1933
The car comes complete with a set of spare new tires, couple of inner tubes, a vinyl top, top bows and side curtains (black) which need some work but are useable. The dash and steering wheel are aftermarket items with a wood finish that enhances the appearance of the car.
This is a very unique opportunity, don't let this one pass you by, this car gets a lot of attention wherever it goes
Things to do - the car was sold to me without carbs, I searched the globe for some factory original 1" SU carbs that are correct for this car, I found a restored pair for sale in Australia and snapped them up imediately, upon receipt I found that I needed some additional parts to couple them togeher and to make them function properly with the choke and trottle mechanisms, I have contacted Barry Walker in the UK who specializes in restoring and supplying parts for pre-war MG's and I have purchased the missing parts to make the carbs fully functional again, the cost of the parts was over $500. Badging and fog lamps are included they were added to enhance the appearance of the car at a cost of $400, the wiring to the lamps will need to be completed.
This car is being sold as-is, where is, the buyer is reponsible for shipping and transportation costs including taxes and fees. I am not a dealer this is a private sale from my collection.
Good Luck!
