For auction is a 1979 Mazda RX-7 and is advertised in the Car Trader Classic. The E-Bay auction format did not like the VIN #, however it is correct and matches the one on the body. I inherited this car from my son when he needed money to move back to the Northwest. I spent some time researching the car in an effort to determine its condition and value. The oldest RX-7 I found on E-Bay was a 1982 and it was listed with a buy-it-now price of $3500.00.
The known history of this car starts with the owner previous to my son. According to the old woman, she had owned the car for several years. Her father had bought it for her and maintained it until his death, then she parked it next to her garage where it remained for several years until my son purchased it. It took him 3 days just to get it started. Once he got it running, it ran like a top. The only modification my son made to the vehicle was to add an after market racing suspension. The suspension is the adjustable type, allowing the driver to mechanicly stiffin the suspension for different types of road surfaces and tracks.
Since I assumed ownership of the car I haven't had any time to work on it or even clean it up. The car is very driveable and looks good from a distance. Most of the flaws are small and related to the interior or areas that need to be repainted. The hinges of the glove compartment and the center console need to be replaced. The seats are in fair condition with no tears, however the dash, under the dash cover is very cracked due to the sun. The carpets need to be replaced. The glass hatch hinges both need to be replaced, replacement hinges are behind the drivers seat. The glass hatch shock supports are shot and need to be replaced. The Clutch appears to be good, but the thro-out-bearing makes noise when the car is running and the transmission is in neutral and the clutch is out. The brakes are good, however they need to be bled out. I just took the car to Oil Can Henry's, had the engine flushed out, changed the transmission and rear-end fluid, and changed the oil and filter. Since the oil flush I have noticed a small oil leak on one of the nipples of the oil cooler. Although I've mentioned several items I would repair, most of the items are small and repairable by someone without expensive mechanical expertise. The vehicle is sold as-is and shippment of the vehicle is at the buyers expence. If you have any questions send me a message, I'll do my best to answer it.
