My 1985 Mazda RX7 is up for Auction. This is a super nice all original car with 97,800 miles (7,000 miles on the engine). I love this car but have others and very little time. I’m afraid setting unused will eventually cause problems so I regretfully have decided to part with it.
Drive Train
Engine is a replacement “crate” engine installed approximately 7,000 miles ago. It starts easily and runs excellent. It does not burn or leak oil. There is the normal smoke at start up that RX7 seem to do. Transmission shifts without issue. Clutch is fine. Exhaust is Racing Beat stainless header, pipes and muffler that was new with the engine and is in fine condition (this is a performance system and is louder than normal). Brakes are firm and work great. Shocks feel fine. The air conditioning system does not currently work. It was never recharged after the engine was replaced. Tires are Yokohama ES100 195-60-R14 that have plenty of life left. Steering feels a little stiff but is primarily due to the wider tires.
Interior
The original interior shows minor wear but is the nicest original interior you will find. Gauges and lights work. The dash is original, is not cracked nor has it been repaired.
Body
What sold me on this car is the condition of the body. This is car was always babied and never driven in bad weather. I believe the paint is original. There is NO serious rust on this car. Floors and sills are like new. Even the engine bay and trunk are super clean. Yes, there are a few minor chips and dings as you might expect on an original car this age. I tried to picture the two most noticeable dents. I think these would be easily and economically fixed by one of the paintless dent removal companies. Chrome, stainless and rubber trim are in great condition.
The car feels solid and drives wonderful. There are no abnormal noises other than the non-stock exhaust. I have not seen an all original RX7 in this condition for many years. It’s like a time machine. Comes with driver’s handbook. Clear Wisconsin title in my name. You can drive this car home without worries.
