Vehicle Description Mercedes Benz 280 Coupe. This is a very nice little car, hard to find in this condition. The actual miles on the car are just over 110,000 The body has a few small areas of SURFACE rust spots, ranging approximately the size of a dime up to maybe a dollar bill folded in half. These are not rot through areas. The drivers side rocker panel has some rust through in a couple of spots as the pictures will show. The rocker panel is structurally sound and this area could be simply filled or metal replacement patch, however I would just replace the rocker as the car deserves that. Behind the passenger side rear wheel opening there is some minor bubbling of the paint. This area is approximately 4 inches X 6 inches. This will be a minimal repair. I have taken the car to a local quality restoration shop to look over the body, chassis and underneath of the vehicle besides the frame itself. There is no rust or rot anywhere under the car. The frame rails, suspension, and floors are all in fantastic rust free condition. The paint cleans up nicely with a regular washing but would likely look even better with a hand waxing. The car gets a lot of looks despite the few issues the car shows. The grille is in great condition and the hood ornament is included albeit not shown in the pictures. I just have not put it on. All of the stainless trim is in very good condition and the drivers side rocker panel stainless trim is also included but as the pictures indicate, it is not currently on the car. The interior is equipped with a rare color option red and the seats and floor carpets are in excellent condition. Near new in appearence as well as structurally in tact. The area on the console where the power window rocker switches are located had a crack in it and it is not fixed down as I have not yet addressed the crack. There are no electrical issues stemming from this as it it only a needed cosmetic repair. The car drives true, straight and comfortably down the road and the multi speed automatic transmission shifts properly and at the designed engine rpm. There is a flat spot in the carb. I have added some Z-MAX to the 92 octane fuel I filled it with and this has improved it however there remains a need for either a carb cleaning or possibly rejetting. ?? This is another simple fix but with 2 other projects taking my time I have not addressed these. That said, I've been getting pretty decent MPG with the car despite the carb flat spot so with that cleared up it can only improve mpg. The engine and compartment are not bright and shiny but this is not an oil leaking or spewing car, so a nice cleaning and detailing would go a long way in making the under hood shine up greatly. This car wants to run strong and it is clearly the carb issue that is holding it back. The tires are like new and show no adverse ware pattern. The suspension is solid and the car rides and drives very nicely. The fan belt pulley has a wobble in it which makes the fan blades tick on a nearby screw head which I think is on the airconditioning unit?? What that indicates to me is the bearings are shot on this pulley. For this reason I would plan to have the car trailered however if you would choose to have me take to a shop and have this replaced then I am willing to do this but the actual costs would be paid by the winning bidder. I will also help out with meeting the transport truck and loading the car on this end for you but again the expense will be the buyers sole responsibility. The power steering and brakes are in smooth, good working order. The car stops properly without pulling or pushing one direction or the other. The exhaust is stock and sounds nice. The wheel covers are in fine condition and will polish up beautifully. The interior back seats are dusty but are in excellent condition. I have a price on the car locally of $2500 and the buy it now price of $2300 are negotiable. I am willing to consider any offers so feel free to communicate your thoughts if you are interested. I prefer to communicate via phone. questions/ answers are generally conveyed more accurately that way. I can be reached via phone at 319-234-0634 most anytime. Ask for Rich. I had removed it for better veiwing of the motor in the pictures. The wood grain throughout is in very nice condition. The new tires have less than 500 miles on them. If you would like to see more pictures please ask and I will email them to you. Want to see a specific area or just more general shots of the car, no trouble. A point worth making: The interior pics show the fact I had not cleaned and detailed the interior before taking the pictures. The inside of the car is in absolutely great condition.
