This is a fine example of the venerable Mercedes-Benz W123 sedan, the last year of its manufacture and the best of the breed. It is a genuine California car, with zero rust and still sporting its original blue California license plates. I have owned a 240D for many years and love the Mercedes diesel, and bought this for my 18-year old daughter to drive. But alas, 18-year olds do not appreciate the classic "style" of these rugged workhorses, and she opted for a more stylish two-door instead.
This Turbo Diesel is a superb running car. It has average miles for a mid-80s diesel (and is good for probably another 250M before any major repairs) and is surprising fast! It starts immediately, hot or cold, idles smoothly, no smoke, no leaks, and runs cool in all weather. I just had the entire air conditioning system repaired with many components replaced - new compressor, condensor, dryer bottle, vacuum valve behind dash, etc. It blows ice cold! What is especially amazing about this car is that everything works! All four electric windows work smoothly, the power sunroof opens and closes properly, the power antenna rises and falls as the stereo is switched on and off, the vacuum door locks all work as does the trunk, the tachometer works - even the rare cruise control operates properly! The trans shifts firmly, right on time, no slipping, the brakes are terrific, and the ride quality is smooth, quiet, without any annoying squeaks or rattles.
The body is very straight, and shines in its pale yellow. However, it is not perfect, and has some dents and dings, the worst of which, on the left front fender, I have photographed for you. There is also a dented area beneath the right front headlight. The paint in the rear is a bit faded/oxidized and appears to have been re-done some time in the past, indicating a possible repair. Everything opens and closes properly so if there was, it was executed properly. All doors close easily with that positive Mercedes thunk! The trunk is clean too, and even the trunk light works.
The interior is beautiful in its rich oxblood upholstery and gleaming wood trim. The seats are firm and supportive, no rips or splits. The headliner is excellent as well. The dash top is almost perfect with just the faintest tiny hairline crack near the temperature sensor. The original first aid kit is still there on the rear parcel shelf. This interior is a rare color and its contrast with the primrose exterior makes a classy and elegant combination.
The car is a joy to drive, and I'd not hesitate to take off for New York with it tomorrow if I had to. It would be a fine candidate for WVO or biodiesel conversion but I won't belabor that over-done point here. That said, it is a used car and sold as-is, without warranty expressed or implied. I have described it as accurately as possible and to the best of my knowledge. You may inspect it yourself prior to bidding if you wish.
Please, if you intend on bidding, have the funds already available in case you win the auction! If you are new to eBay and have zero feedback, contact me first before bidding. Your bid is a legal contract to purchase in the event you win. I will accept electronic wire transfer, cashier's check (which does require some time to clear both banks), PAYPAL, or cash in person as well. Transportation is the responsibility of the buyer. I've priced this low to sell fast, and the Buy It Now ends the auction immediately with you as winner.
