Vehicle Description
83 Mercedes 300D Multi Fuel Nice and Reliable!
I am selling a beautiful dark blue 1980 300D Turbo Diesel. It can run on regular Diesel, Bio-diesel, SVO – (straight vegetable oil) or WVO – (waste vegetable oil) or any blend of the above.
With a properly converted Mercedes Benz the fuel price increases won’t be affecting you for the next 20 years or more (expected life of this car, if properly maintained) because you can Drive it for practically FREE, if you decide to make your own Bio Diesel or use WVO, and you don’t have to worry about fuel shortages, with this car you are NOT depending on the oil companies at all, a BIG plus over the Hybrid cars
Be careful with some conversions that only ruin your engine in less than 20,000 miles! And this is a proven fact.
Converted by a Mercedes Benz Certified Technician at a Mercedes only shop (records included).
A similar conversion by ELSBETT is done for around $2,000.00 - $2,500.00 (this includes the kit and installation) depending on the car model and engine type (please check the http://www.elsbett.com web site), this European company has been converting diesel engines to run on one tank system for more than 20 years they also manufacture engines to run exclusively on SVO.
To sum up everything below, the car looks really nice and is mostly original.
It runs very well and would make an excellent daily driver, remember with the rising price of fuel this car will very soon pay for himself on a couple of years or so.
These cars typically get over 30 MPG…….but on used veggie oil who cares, it runs for almost free, yes for almost FREE a very nice feature.
NOT found on any HIGH PRICED and very expensive to maintain (Please see the excerpt bellow taken from MSN Money.) Of the so CALLED “Hybrid” cars. High-tech cars mean high-priced repairs!
When keys can cost hundreds of dollars and headlights thousands, you can bet virtually any repair bill will be a shocker. MSN Money columnist Liz Pulliam Weston reports.
By Liz Pulliam Weston
My friend Kerry was proud to be on the cutting edge of hybrid technology when he bought a Toyota Prius a few years ago.
He's less proud to be on the cutting edge of hybrid-technology repairs. He just paid a bundle to replace the car's transaxle, part of the vehicle's new-wave continuously variable transmission, which failed just after the warranty expired.
"The dealer initially told me it would be $3,000 just for the labor, and $5,000 for the part. That's 40% of the original base price of the car!"
Liz Pulliam Weston's column appears every Monday and Thursday, exclusively on MSN Money. She also answers reader questions in the Your Money message board.
I am not a mathematician or a genius, but if I buy a new car let’s assume my monthly payment will be around $300 - $500.00 for 36 - 60 months depending of the Total car price plus interest, (obviously not counting the “down” payment or the “trade in allowance” for my used car, and the insurance premiums) but if I buy a good condition used Diesel Mercedes I find very difficult to spend $300.00 to $500.00 per month for 36 or 60 months on repairs or maintenance, besides that the more I drive the car the more I save, comparing the diesel price at the pump.
NOT taking into consideration if I want I can make my own bio diesel or use WVO and the car can be driven for practically free.
If you are reading this auction description, chances are you are looking to buy a car or just comparing fuel mileage cost or fuel alternatives on the long run.
You can buy a brand new car and get in debt for years or drive a classic with style and high standards of safety that only Mercedes Benz can offer, for practically nothing.
The decision is up to you.
Now, Back to the 83 Mercedes 300D turbo Diesel Multi Fuel
MECHANICAL
The car drives very well and has no known mechanical issues.
The engine is steady, starts up just fine, and
does not make any unusual noises or ticks.
This car has been only run on bio diesel.
The engine compartment is clean and, it is not dropping
any fluids on the ground when parked for over two
weeks.
The transmission shifts smoothly.
EXTERIOR
The exterior looks really classy and the paint is a
smooth dark, glossy blue. In some of the photos it
looks black, but it is really a dark blue.
The headlights are intact and both bumpers are
straight, with the rubber uncracked and mounted in the
right place.
The windows are the manual type so no worries about electric motors or switches going bad all windows are unscratched.
The tires are in good shape and have a ways to go.
INTERIOR
The interior and MB Tex is very nice
All seats are in good shape no saggy springs or tears
The center console is fine and the Zebrano wood trim looks sharp.
The glove box door shuts without any problems.
The dash has some cracks, but I will also throw in a dash cover.
The gauges all work, but the clock does not seem to be
keeping time.
The headliner is nice.
The car does not have any smoke (or any other) smell.
The trunk is very clean and includes a spare tire.
OTHER INFO
The air conditioner needs to be recharged
if you want it to blow cold.
In CA, you do not have to worry about emissions! This
will save you the cost of smogging the car every two
years for registration.
it does not have cruise control.
I bought it from an older man in San Diego who’d been driving it for four years before his wife told him to get rid of it. It was a gift to him
from a family member who had driven it for many years.
I think it started out with an owner in Anaheim, Ca, since I found a metal plaque in the car with the name and address on it.
Unfortunately, the man I bought it from did not keep his service
records.
BOTTOM LINE
THIS IS NOT A LIKE-NEW CAR! IT IS AN OLD, OLD, 25YEAR-OLD CAR!
However, it runs great and the Mercedes turbo diesel engine will take you a long, long, long ways with fabulous gas mileage.
You could drive it across the country right now, though I would recommend charging the AC and using a CD or MP3 player unless
you still happen to have cassette tapes.
I have tried to describe the whole car, including both
the bad and the good. If there is anything in particular you’d like described or you’d like a photo of some particular part, let me know.
