Hello, Up for auction is a 1980 Mercedes Benz 300D. I purchased the vehicle back in November, 2007 and I was originally intending to convert it to vegetable oil as a fuel. However, with my work schedule I do not have the time to finish the project. The car starts up and runs well, the brakes stop you with no squeaks or grinding, and the transmission shifts smoothly and doesn't miss a beat once the car is warmed up (remember these cars are controlled completely by vacuum control). The vehicle doesn't overheat, and still gets decent fuel economy (approx 28-30 on the highway). The cruise control and air conditioning work intermittently, which leads me to believe something is loose. Some of the items I have changed since I bought the vehicle were tires (they have about 5000 miles on them), the fuel injector return lines, a new alternator bracket since the one that came on the car was bent out of shape, as well as a new battery as of 01/08. The engine does have a few small oil leaks, but it isn't a problem so long as you check the oil level periodically. As I have stated above, I don't have the time to finish the project, but this car would make an excellent Veggie burner if one had the intention. Included in the buy it now price, I will include all of the extra parts that I picked up but was unable to put in due to time constraints (some are performance related, some are repair/maintenance items). On the side of preventive/maintenance/repair items: a new set of fuel lines, a transmission filter and gasket set, a new set of 3 fuel filters, an extra oil filter, a box of fuses, a set of valve wrenches, a new valve cover gasket, valve stem seal kit, a new set of engine seals, an oil pan gasket, as well as a new head gasket set, an aftermarket block heater and a new set of glow plugs. The performance parts are limited to a new set of Bosio fuel injectors from Italy, and a headlight conversion to allow the use of H4 bulbs (as the sealed beams are too weak in my opinion), and some cans of Lubro Moly fuel system cleaner. I will also include a chilton manual for repair, as well as a repair manual on CD-ROM. The vehicle is in ok shape for a car that is almost 30 years old, but there are some blemishes to the interior and exterior. There are a few dents and scratches on the hood (passenger side) and some surface rust spots. The drivers side seat is comfortable, but a seam has let loose and there is a tear. The power sunroof works, but will require some cleaning/adjustment. I would be happy to answer any further questions, or to send more pictures by request. One other point of note is the car does not have a stereo, as I never got around to putting one in. Thanks for looking, and have a great day.
