This auction is for a great running 1984 Mercedes Benz 300D Turbo Diesel. It has very low miles for a car of its age. The 3.0 liter 5-cylinder diesel engine in this car is built to last. This one is barely broken in. I purchased this car a few years ago to use as a daily driver for my 120 mile/day commute. The car typically got 35 mpg on the highway and about 25 mpg in town. It has a 20 gallon tank so the cruising range is excellent. The engine in this car is one of the most sought after for WVO conversion and/or use with bio-diesel. My commute has recently been reduced from 120 miles/day to 0 miles/day so my need for it has diminished. The car is in good condition for its age and I will try to mention each of its features and its respective condition: Engine: The car starts up immediately and runs great. It has a block heater but I have never plugged it in. I have started the car in temperatures below +20F with no problem. Transmission: The trans works properly. Exterior: The paint is in pretty good condition as can be seen from the pictures. There is a dent in the driver's front fender and a piece of trim is missing in that area. There are some rust areas. Please refer to the pictures for the details of that. The doors, trunk lid and hood all work perfectly. Interior: The interior is in good condition. The seats are near perfect. There is a crack in the dash on the passenger side and some cracks in the finish on part of the center console. The map pocket on the back of the driver's seat is missing. Please refer to the pictures for that too. Heating and A/C: The heat works great in this car, however the thermostat does not work. It basically has two settings....heating or cooling. The A/C system has been converted to 134. It was just charged and the air from the vents comes out at 50 degrees F. The defrost vents are always open so a lot of the air comes out at the windshield registers which minimizes the air coming out the other vents. This is not a problem in the winter. The inside of the car heats up quickly. In the summer it takes a few minutes to cool the interior down since a lot of the A/C is blowing across the hot windshield and dash. Once it cools down though, it is quite comfortable. Power windows: All the window motors work and will roll the windows up and down. The switches for the rear occupants do not appear to work. I am unsure if that is due to driver's override button not working or if both rear switches are broken. I would guess the former, but I don't know. The driver's switches for the front windows and the driver's rear work perfectly. The passenger rear window sometimes acts funny and will not go up due to the driver's switch. I have another switch which will permit you to roll that window up. Personally, I just never roll it down. Sun roof: When I first got the car I pressed the switch to open the sun roof and I could hear the motor running and the sun roof started to open. I have never opened it all the way. I immediately closed the sunroof. I repeated the "test" the other day and it opened a little bit and then I closed it again. I think the sunroof works but I am not sure. I am stating here that you should assume it does NOT work and maybe you'll get lucky. I do not want to try it and have it come off the track or something and then have to deal with it. There is a manual crank in the trunk to operate the sun roof. I have never fooled with that. Cruise control: The cruise will not hold a constant speed. The accel button seems to work however. I believe this is a vacuum problem. Power Lock: The central locks do not work automatically. I believe this is a vacuum problem. The locks work manually. Stereo: The car has an aftermarket 180 watt JVC AM/FM/CD player which works great. Driver's side manual side-view mirror works as designed. Passenger power Side-view mirror: When you operate the switch you can hear the motor running and the mirror shakes around but you can't really controlwhat way does it move??? it. I am guessing there is a stripped gear in the mechanism somewhere but I am not sure. Lights: All exterior lights work. The vanity mirror lights, interior light, rear occupant reading light all work. Some of the dash bulbs do not work. The basic summary is that this is a great running, good looking car that should provide you with years of trouble-free service. Some of the "fancy" stuff is inoperable presently, but none of it effects the reason you want an '84 Mercedes Benz 300D Turbo.....classic look, great mileage, great reliability, and/or possibly as a prime candidate for WVO conversion or joining your local bio-diesel cooperative. I will accept PayPal or cash for payment. I will deliver the car within 100 miles for $1.00/mile. Otherwise the winner should plan on picking it up in zip 20136. Thanks for looking.
