Mercedes-Benz labels its new R-Class a premium sports tourer. Though it bears elements of a car, minivan and SUV, the R has the kind of layout and looks -- three rows of two seats, an elongated profile -- that'll likely have you labeling it a very upscale, rather attractive wagon. The R-Class is based on the concept Vision GST, or "Grand Sports Tourer," that debuted at the North American International Auto Show in 2002, and the initial 2006 production vehicle has remained mostly true to the concept.
The Mercedes-Benz R-Class' styling -- accentuated by a thick horizontal crease that angles forward and down from the top of the taillight -- does little to make the very long vehicle seem, well, less long. Rear doors are enormous. Somehow it all kind of works, especially in lighter colors. This R500 is powered by the manufacturer's veteran 5.0-liter, 302-horse V8. It has the superb seven-speed automatic that is working its way across the Mercedes lineup. Coupled with electronic traction control, stability control, BrakeAssist and four-wheel discs with antilock, safety features are nicely integrated. For a short while, the 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class had the "premium sports tourer" category all to itself. On some level, the V6-powered R350 might compete with the still cheaper Pacifica, but the R500, which has a base price of over $56k (with the options on this one it was over $60,000 new), is in a class by itself.

Exterior: This 2006 Mercedes Benz R500 is a beautiful Pewter with Gray interior, and it looks absolutely awesome! This car is IMMACULATE, there are only a couple tiny stone chips that have been touched up, but no paintwork and thats a nice thing to see! This color combination is rare and looks amazing in person… why have another Black or White car! The car looks very sporty from every angle. At only 2 years old, this car still basically a new vehicle, it just has some highway FL driven and enjoyed miles. This car has a clean carfax/autocheck history and a clean/clear title. The paint looks great, and it has a great deep shine to it, and the wheels are in great shape... this car would easily pass for having 15k miles on it, its that clean inside and out! This R500 has been VERY well taken care of and it shows… as this MBZ truly looks GREAT!
The R-Class's front windshield and hood rake steeply rearward, as does the front hood—much like a minivan. There is method to this van-like madness however— it improves the aerodynamics of this vehicle. The profile is long and sloping with a slightly "chopped-top" retro appearance ala the Dodge Magnum. As you see the vehicle coming down the road, you may think it's a minivan or an SUV, but one thing you'll know is that it's a Mercedes-Benz due to its prominent grille and nameplate branding.

Interior:Well maintained was the first thing that came to mind when looking at this interior. It is absolutely gorgeous, and looks BRAND NEW! We really couldn't find anything to complain about (it even smells new) and everything looks and works perfectly. This is a one owner car NON SMOKER / NO PETS car and it is clean and maxed out with options! Every option in the car works great! It truly looks perfect throughout. The carpets are very clean, and the leather seats are incredibly smooth and soft. The headliner looks great, and the dash looks like new. You'll be impressed with this Mercedes R500!!! This is a very functional and comfortable interior, and its got some great options like Navigation, Icy A/C, Wood Trim, Pano Roof, Power Seats, third row seating, and a great H&K Logic 7 sound system!
The interior of the R-Class feels more like a family room than a car. Especially when outfitted with the panoramic sunroof that spans nearly the entire length of the vehicle, the interior space of the R-Class looks and feels downright cavernous. This MBZ is loaded with eight-way power front seats, Walnut interior trim and fold-flat second and third row seats. The R-Class' second row of seats features items usually only found in the first row: individual seat adjustments, reading lights, armrests, air vents, cup holders, middle console and it is great to get things in and out of with the configuration of the adjustable bucket seats!
What a deal this Mercedes R500 is, because there is a VERY PRICE… and we will entertain reasonable offers!

Mechanically: This Mercedes runs like it is new! It has a 5.0 300hp engine, more than enough power to get you going! It runs very strong, and shifts smoothly through the 7 speed automatic transmission. This engine is very strong and still gets better gas mileage than most other similar powered cars! The brakes are in good condition, and the tires are approx 60% tread depth. The mileage is highway driven and this R500 was well maintained by its single FL owner. We have just had this car to our Mercedes dealer to be checked over and gone through top to bottom to ensure there are no issues… including any updates, recalls, and to note any service work that may have needed to be done so we could pass that info to you. This Mercedes R500 is ready for its next owner and a steal at the price!
The 5.0-liter single-overhead-cam V8 powering the R500 and the new seven-speed automatic transmission creates the most spirited and stable driving experience of the available combinations. We found that even on winding roads, the R-Class smoothly swayed through the turns without a hint of engine strain. The seven-speed transmission shifts upward effortlessly and there's enough power in the V8 to sprint straight up a hill if necessary. Like many Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the R-Class has both Sport and Comfort suspension settings, and we found the Sport setting quite pleasing and agile. Stopping this heavy vehicle is also no problem with its 13.8-inch front rotors and standard ABS and BrakeAssist features. The R-Class also has an excellent turning ratio, making it even easier to maneuver than many SUVs.
