Classic and timeless….
It's time for my 420 SEL to carry on its timeless tradition with a new driver, you.
The car is a 1987 Mercedes Benz (Merz) 420 SEL with black exterior and tan leather interior. I purchased the care from a Stuttgart trained master mechanic in California and drove about 5,000 miles. Today, the car has 150,000 miles total, with 5,000 miles since the motor and transmission were refurbished. The car is ready for daily driving, cross country trips or perhaps you will use it as I did, as a business car for another state.
The car is one of the most comfortable top of the line Benz’s that you will find. The motor and transmissions were refurbished in 2005. The car is in above average overall condition. The body, motor, transmission and brakes all are in good condition. The interior is in excellent condition as there are no tears in the dash or seats. gas mileage, the car averages 20-22 miles per gallon. Although it may be socially fashionable to drive a Prius, the Prius would not do very well in an encounter with an 87 Mercedes, it would be recycled into a bumper our something. I take safety over Prius anyday. This a V8 and the key to good gas mileage with a V8 is just be gentle with the throttle. I believe people are over-reacting to the fuel prices and once the currunt administration leaves office, you will see oil prices retreat. Hedge funds have driven gas prices and they have created a bubble just like the housing market. The bubble will burst and gas prices will recede.
The key is, if you want the power, you have it when you need it and you can feel at ease about your safety because this Mercedes is potentially the safest car on the road. Saving on gas matters most if you are safe.
This car is a classic and if you take care, this model has been known to drive up to a million miles. You see many of these cars on the road today which is evidence of their longevity. Parts are readily available as so many of these cars were sold. If you buy this car, your cost per mile over the life of the car will be better than any new car.
My cost after reconditioning was $5,300. I have since spent $2,500 on the air conditioning system, some minor items, tune-up, emissions, new exhaust and other. This car is a daily driver that is ready to go. Eventually, the car will need new tires in about 5,000 miles. Just sign and drive.
You will find this model on Ebay ranging between $2,000 and $30,000. This car is worth $7,700 I have invested to the right person. I am willing to sell below cost. Bid on this one first as it has already been driven, tested and maintained and I am ready to sell. This car is dependable and I would drive to New York, Los Angeles and back tomorrow morning with full confidence that it will be a comfortable problem free journey.

Private Party Sale
I am a private party seller and I have sold two other Mercedes, one on Ebay and one direct. The prior buyer and sale on Ebay was to a buyer that was very happy with the sale. I had an offer $1,000 over the purchase agreed to on Ebay after the sale ended and I honored my Ebay agreement. The car is sold “as-is”with no warranties either expressed or implied. I would sell this car to a friend, which says it all. There are no major flaws to be concerned about.

I have driven the car for nearly 2 years and I offer the car for sale on this auction and any faults are disclosed to the best of my ability. You will see a variety of cars like this one available for purchase on the Web ranging from $2,000 to $30,000. I have driven this car for two years and I have not had any problems with the car other than the ones that I have just repaired. My cost at $7,700 demonstrates that this car has been vetted.

I am a Private Party Seller which means that upon receipt of payment, I sign a Bill of Sale and the Title and the car becomes yours. The car has no lien or lender to deal with or any salesman for that matter. .
Payment
If you are a winning bidder, contact me via email immediately at the end of the auction for verification. My requirements are that the high bidder should pay an immediate deposit of $500 via paypal or via money order by overnight mail upon completion of the auction and the car should be paid in full within 5 days via cashiers check, cash if in person or money order. If payment of the car is not fulfilled within the specified time, the car will be offered for re-sale and feedback will be left accordingly.

Let's get the bidding going so that you can enjoy this car as much as I have. I have done a series of trips from Arizona to California and back and it has been a pleasure to drive. This car was pulled over by a State Trooper in California at 130 miles per hour and I was just stretching my legs. The trooper almost ran into me at 110 miles per hour. I was fortunate to have the ticket thrown out. Try that in a Prius. If the bidding is good, the car will sell.

In asking the above question, I am asking an open ended question so that we have a new open reply to the extent of the rebuild. My understanding is that Klaus, a Mercedes trained master mechanic from Germany overhauled the transmission and engine. Klaus' story is that he worked as a teenager in the basement of the Mercedes factory learning the parts and gradually earned his way to the factory floor. He worked almost exclusively on Mercedes for 50 years until his retirement about a year ago. This is one of the last cars that he personally rebuilt.
