1964 230 SL - Euro-Model Convertible with both Tops
Car has been garaged for 10 years in New Mexico.
Purchased in San Francisco, CA, area in 1988. Previous owner had some restoration done when it was received from Germany in the late1970's. New paint and mechanical over-haul.
Car was running strong before garaging in 1997, at that time a new exhaust system and muffler were installed; front rotors, vacuum canister, and brakes also installed.
Car has not been started in 5 years. When moving, automatic shift lever popped loose. Transmission remained in neutral.
Car ready for restoration- a mechanicaL check list should be performed before start-up.
Over-all condition good. Rocker panel rust on both sides. Windshield wiper motor needs to be rebuilt. Paint condition good but starting to show cracks around rear wheel fenders. One ding above front bumper and below grill in the center. Door windows need new mounting rubber.

Import date from West Germany 1981, Vin numbers are matching and German registration records back to 1971 match.
Mercedes thorough application of under-coating can make detection or amount of rust incomplete.Addressing your questions I have re-inspected: front and back 8 to 10 inches both rocker panels and corners of driver and passenger foot wells need attention.This is not uncommon in a vehicle driven in Germany for 17 years.
Before garaging in 1997, car was mechanically sound with good excelleration in passing step-down,no smoke or oil leaks.At that time exhaust and brake system re-done: new resonator, muffler, mid pipes, down pipe; front calipers, master cylinder, brake booster, brake cylinder, re-build back cylinders,clean-up shoes, turn rotors, pads.Was in process of changing out radiator and replacing transmission cooling lines. Have all paper work.
In 1982 odometer read 50,046 and now reads 55,340 .
