I have a mercedes 500 sl same as 450 sl but it came from germany and 450's were imported to us that year and 500sl AMG were only sold in germany so the car has been shipped her from germany my friend told me the guy he bought it from years ago bought it in Germany and brought it her when he came here. I have driven the car to work for the last 2 months 25 miles a day. The car was given to me by a friend. He put a new top on 5 years ago and stopped driving it 2 years ago and let it sit for a while before I took it over. I had to get the fuel filter and all hoses(6) associated with th fuel system changed to their age to avoid them popping at a inconveinent time, flushed the gas tank witch is made of brass(kool) and had fuel lines and system cleaned to the engine because it had been sitting, also had oil changed. I had rear brakes and calipers done although it does need rear rotors I opted out to save a hundred dollars and was told I could get away with it, car brakes fine I was told the front brakes looked gook and not worth doing at this time. When car starts cold it reeves high till it warms up and engine runs pretty good. I had a piece spliced in the exhaust were it was leaking and could probably use an exhaust in time it is good for now and the mechanic told me the muffler is newer than the rest. The car is rusty and need some body work or it is easier to say the car needs total restoration to cover me. the battery box frame is rusted out in the trunk and the battery is slung over into the spare tire holder it looks like the frame around the battery box is a one piece all by it self and a new one could be ordered to put in and hold the battery box it wasn't made of very thick metal while the rest of the was overdone. the right front fender would be easier to replace for 100 dollars then fix they sell it after market. the picture of the carpet on the passenger door is to show that it is rusted and you can see daylight along the seam I don't see any other places the floors are rusted through It has a signature steering wheel witch I was told was worth a few dollars but I can't verify it. The car is a classic but you would have to do some work to get back to new status. I drove the car and had fun it draws attention and conversation. If you have any questions give me a call 732 500 8803 Bill. The top is a little moldy and the top as some green on it from the trees. It could look the better the way it is just don't have time GOOD LUCK. Dont bid if not serious and if want to see the car first give me a call I tried to tell as much as I know but it is a fixer upper. I will sell world wide as long as you arainge shipping and car is paid for before it is picked up
