Mercury never went in for wild tail fins like most of Detroit. Well, not until the Comet with its canted elliptical tail. The original Comet was to carry the Edsel badge. With the demise of Edsel, Mercury needed a car to compete with the ever popular Ford Falcon Futura. America was ready for a sporty, compact personal car. And compete it did, with the somewhat radical fins... it was a hit.
My daughter- in- law was so impressed with the Comet offered here she did some research. The first year Comet was not an Edsel. It was not a Mercury. It was just a Comet. It was bigger, plusher and had an easier ride than the Ford Falcon. It handled better and had such a snazzy look. Ford claimed it had a BIG CAR RIDE, with small car handling.
When was the last time you saw one of these babies cruising the streets of your city, especially in this condition? Have you ever seen one? They are a great running and handling automobile. Talk about 'heads turning , this one is so bright and shiny it draws more attention than almost any of the muscle cars. The interior looks almost like new. It is flashy, sporty and very comfortable. You just cannot ask for a smoother or more comfortable ride.
When sitting in the drivers seat you will be surrounded with a miniture Edsel dash. It is very inviting and well designed.T he dashboard knobs are actually Edsel's. You will enjoy looking at the many pictures of the interior. Please note that it is in spectacular condition.
Langworth listed the Comet “collectable” as far back as 1987. This car will compliment anyone’s collection. I included a promo board designed for car shows.
This car is almost 50 years old with only 47,00 miles. It is really very nice, even up close. However, because it is 49 years old we make no mileage claim. It is a drive anywhere car. Everything works. Even the original radio and horn work. When was the last time you pulled a manual choke? It is still there along with the original Holly carburetor. It roars into action; well, not really, I better leave the roar part out, but it starts quickly, runs and drives just about like new.
The engine and engine compartment are neat and clean. It really is something to show off. The valve cover and ORIGINAL air cleaner are all dressed up in their Sunday best.......Brilliant yellow. The original battery tray is even in excellent condition. The entire car has been well cared for and protected from abuse. Classic cars are supposed to be fun. This one has so much to talk about. It is a lot of fun. The six cylinder engine is smooth, quiet and very economical.
MARKS CORNER I have driven this car for over 100 miles. Julie just loves it. Every time I bring it home she just raves about it. This is a bit unusual seeing I can drive almost anything I want to. Dad has been buying classic cars for almost 50 years. This one sure gets the looks. It runs and drives great. I had never seen a 1960 Comet before. It has been a lot of fun for me and my family.

Oftentimes I'm asked about the roadworthiness of a vehicle. It is difficult to give an answer. EVERYONE LOOKS AT VEHICLES THROUGH DIFFERENT EYES. Even experienced buyers do not see things you might see. We have been purchasing for many years and try to do a better job then others but IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO LOOK BEFORE YOU BID IF YOU CHOOSE. Classic vehicles are today’s best investments in my opinion. What is expensive today is very cheap tomorrow. Appraisers cannot keep up. Some prices are changing weekly. 'Nobody makes these anymore'.
Keep in mind these vehicles need attention, they need to be tweaked and time needs to be spent in order to know their strengths and weaknesses. My suggestion is to get used to your classic or classics. You purchased an old vehicle to experience motoring FROM THAT ERA. Why try and change that?

Fee and Tax Information: A $100 documentation fee will be added to all sales. All Michigan buyers are required to pay the 6% sales tax and applicable fees. Out of state buyers are responsible for all state, county, city taxes and fees, as well as title/registration fees in the state that the vehicle will be registered. Michigan law requires us to collect and FORWARD all applicable state taxes. Tag and title fees not included.
Winning bidder must contact us within 24 hours of auction end, and make arrangements for payment at that time. A $500.00 non-refundable deposit must be received within 24 hours of end of auction. The balance (plus applicable taxes and fees) is due within 7 days of auction end. Method of payments accepted are Cashier's Check, Cash, Wire Money Transfer or third party financing.
Most banks and credit unions do not finance vehicles older than 1995 or with more than 100K miles. Make sure if financing that your financial institution accepts the year and miles of this vehicle before bidding. Please arrange financing prior to bidding.
Buyer is totally responsible for shipping and all related charges.
