Vehicle Description
Pictured for your consideration is this 1968 Mercury Cougar with a sunroof front disc brakes. These are the only options that I am aware of. Selling because I have gone as far as I can go with this project! I was thinking about using the top for another cougar, but decided this vehicle was too good to chop up. These cars are fast becoming less common, and I just don't have the heart to piece her out. The car is rough for a number of reasons( I'll explain that out later) but I feel that is is very fixable. It has a #'s matching engine that runs, drives, doesn't smoke or burn/leak oil was registered as recent as June/08.
There are some badly rusted out areas on the body, mainly the left rear quarter panel(see pic). The hood was replaced, is really the only panel that is free of rust. The floor pans have also seen better days, but are not rusted all the way through(in other words, can be driven w/o falling thru!) Doors, front fenders deck lid all need to be replaced. I am just being honest! Expect the typical rust on the roof, along the edges for the drip rail around the sunroof seam. For some reason, most of the cancer is on the driver's side. The car looks great from the passenger side. The vehicle has never been wrecked, was only hit lightly on the left rear(bumper).
I purchased the car right here on e-Bay a couple of years ago, haven't done much with it. I added the GT wheels, replaced an exhaust manifold carburetor. She currently sports a dual exhaust upgrade(nice tone), good shocks, Uniroyal Tiger Paw GT radials(about 1/2 tread). There is a fifth rim that goes with the deal which was part of the original set. I got them from a wrecking yard have owned them since 1983. So they are originals, but the center caps are aftermarket.
Shortly after I bought the car, It was vandlized in the rear parking lot of the complex where I work. Parts like the dash panel, dash pad, some misc chrome pieces were taken. The VIN buck tag was loose at the time, and for some reason they stole it. This made registration difficult, but it passed a CHP inspection. The sunroof inner liner was laying on the back seat, so unfortunately they took it, I don't have that part anymore. It has the power top motor, wiring, cables top control switch. I pieced together a dash panel to fill the void, and the guages work.
Other than that, the car has just been sitting too long needs some TLC. I belive it could be a daily driver with a little bit of work. The headlite covers go up, but the lights themselves do not work. The parking lights work, as well as the turn signals. I have the center bulbs disconnected, so they work but not sequentially. I was going to use it as a filler while I was working on my other car. It runs and drives, but started leaking power steering fluid, the brakes need work, although they WILL stop the vehicle. The rear view mirror came loose, but I have it. I drove her in rush hour traffic for the VIN inspection, but would have to admit was a little stressful! Can be driven home if you live within a couple hundred miles of San Jose, you would just have to pay the $59. reg fee keep up on the P/S fluid get home before dark!
Data Plate Info: 8F91C570692 65A-W-1A-22E-54-5-W
I have some of the original paperwork, like the warranty card, build sheet registation that goes as far back as the original owner.
Okay, now for the legal stuff!
This vehicle is being sold as is, where is with no warranty expressed, written or implied. I need $250.00 within 48 hours of auction's end to hold it for you the balance within 2 weeks. I take PayPal, which makes life easy for both parties! Please ask questions prior to bidding, as I am sure I missed something. I will work with the new owner on the tranportation issue. If you live in the San Jose area, I would highly advise taking a good hard look at this vehicle prior to committing to buy. She is rough, but if you know these old school coogs, this project is very fixable! Thanks for looking good luck!!!
