I have held onto this car for 14 years because I like it so much but I don’t have the skills needed to fix it this time. If you have the skills to figure out what she needs, my loss will be your gain.
Here is what I know. It was running great until three weeks ago when it developed a power loss and engine shake that I tracked back to the #2 fuel injector. Not having the skills needed to do a fuel injector replacement myself, I took it to my trusted local (non Nissan) shop. They installed 6 brand new injectors ($500) and now it runs far worse that it did before. They don’t know what is wrong and gave up on it.
It is blowing fuel through the system so badly that it is dripping out the tale pipe. They say it is holding fuel pressure when the fuel pump is off so they don’t think it is a torn o-ring but who knows? The fix might be as simple and taking it apart and putting it back together again but I have no idea. If you have the mechanic skills to get it running again it is yours.
Here is a short list of the recent mechanical work.
· 6 new fuel injectors ($500) last week
· Conversion of the AC system to R134 – last month
· New mass airflow sensor – ($550) four months ago
· New radiator and radiator hoses, top and bottom ($800) two years ago
· New water pump and timing belt ($700) two years ago
· New clutch ($1200) three years ago
· New AC evaporator coil ($1000) four years ago
Known smaller issues other than the one noted above.
· Slow leak in power steering system
· Slow leak in AC system
· Cracked windshield (passenger side bottom to roughly half way up)
· Stereo has loud noise in front passenger speaker. CD and Cassette both out and antenna is stuck part way up.
· Paint on front and rear bumpers is worn
The seats are in great shape. The factory T-tops are like new with no leaks. If something hadn’t gone wrong with that fuel injector repair I would have kept this car for several more years. It was running great several weeks ago and with a little effort it could run like the wind again. If you decide to scrap the car for parts there is hundreds of dollars of new and relatively new components for salvage.
The car isn’t running so the successful bidder will need to make arrangements to tow or haul the vehicle from South Oklahoma City. The car will be sold as is.
