In the early 1980's, sports car enthusiasts were scratching the bottom of the barrel to find a performance car that wasn't plagued by emission standards. Chevrolet had the Camaro and the Corvette, Ford had the Mustang, and Chrysler had the Dodge Daytona. Although these American models were quite popular, one model from Japan was catching the eye of the hobbyist - the Nissan 300ZX.
The Nissan 300ZX is a two-seat sports coupe that had improved aerodynamics and was more powerful than the 280ZX. The 300ZX was also the first Nissan vehicle powered by a mass-produced V6 engine instead of an inline 6 cylinder. The 3.0-liter single overhead cam V6 was offered in two options - naturally aspirated or turbocharged. The natural aspiration engine produced 160 horsepower while the turbo version put out 200 horses.
The chassis for the Nissan 300ZX was based on the same design used for the 280ZX, but better improved for the new model. With the same wheelbase and McPherson Strut/semi-trailing arm suspension, the 300ZX could out perform its predecessor in both handling and acceleration. With the exception of the Shiro Special Edition, turbo models were equipped with 3-way electronic adjustable shocks.
In 1984 Nissan released the 50th Anniversary Edition 300ZX. This model was a fully loaded 300ZX turbo model painted silver and black. All 50th Anniversary cars were equipped with:

- In-car 3 way adjustable shocks
- Steering wheel controls for cruise and radio
- Embroidered leather seats
- Mirrored T-tops
- 16" gold accent aluminum wheels

The 50th Anniversary was given only one option - automatic or manual transmission. 1984 was also the last year for an oil-cooled turbocharger.
