Vehicle Description
NO RESERVE! Pick it up near the gigantic Iola Old Car Show & Swap Meet, held July 10-13! THE ONE AND ONLY ROCKET OLDSMOBILE! For sale is my 1957 Oldsmobile Golden Rocket 88 Holiday coupe (two-door hardtop). For its 60th anniversary, Oldsmobile named its entry-level 88s “Golden Rockets,” and it’s the only time there was a true model with the name “Rocket Oldsmobile.” As the lightest Oldsmobile offered that year, the Golden Rocket was also touted in Olds advertising as its performance car (particularly with the J-2 setup, which this car does NOT have). This “Rocket” probably lifted off for the last time in 1965, the last year it was registered in Minnesota. At that time, the car was collected by a towing company owner and parked on his property in Delano, Minn., for an unknown reason. This was a common practice by the towing company operator, and when he died, he had acres of old cars. His children threatened to crush everything, and I couldn’t bear to see a ‘57 Olds two-door hardtop crushed before it gave up all its goods. This 1957 Olds is nearly complete and I hoped to find a rust-free shell to make one good car, but I have two ‘55 Cadillac Coupe deVilles that need immediate attention, and one of them is a long-term project. So, I’m selling this Olds to fund some of the Caddy work. Here’s the good, bad and ugly about this Oldsmobile: -The car rolls on wheels and tires for easy loading -There is an engine (with four-barrel carb) and transmission, but I haven’t even tried to start it. It has been lubricated from time to time to aid in a potential rebuild. -Nearly all trim is present (as with the rest of the car, what you see is what you get) -Interior is complete and even has seats with poor upholstery -There is no title. Will be sold with bill of sale. -There is no gas tank -The rear axle it is currently rolling on is not an Olds rear axle, but a ‘53 Pontiac unit chained in place to ease shipping -Some glass is broken -Rusty quarters (and one is dented towards rear of car), rockers, and forget about floors…they don’t exist -The car is located in Amherst Junction, Wis. I rent and have too many cars, which are in different locations other than my home, and it’s been sitting at a friend’s house since I purchased it and shipped it to Wisconsin. Therefore, I cannot always say off the top of my head what parts it may or may not have and their condition. The car is located about 7 miles north of the huge Iola Old Car Show & Swap Meet on Highway 49. I work at the place hosting the event and will be busy during the day portion of the show, but I can help load it and unload it to complete the sale before or after the show, or in evenings (except Friday) while the show is going on. For what this car sells for, anyone should have no problem getting their parts and sending the remains to the salvage yard in the sky. Or, if you’re really ambitious (and I mean you’d be willing to unearth the SS Titanic and restore it), this car could be put back on the road. THE OBVIOUS: Of course, there is no warranty with this car, either expressed or implied, by eBay, me or my lawyer, family, etc. (IT IS A PARTS CAR.) I expect a non-refundable $100 deposit at the end of the auction. I will not accept Pay Pal as payment for the full amount of the sale due to the exorbitant fees on this inexpensive car. I will take cash or a cashier’s check in person, but the check must clear before I release the car to the new owner. If you have zero feedback, go away. I will delete your bid and assume you’re some pathetic scam artist from another continent unless you e-mail me or call me before your bid is placed. Bidders who request more photos will be obliged to the best of my ability (the car is, after all, not on my property, so specific photo requests for photos I do not already have require a waiting period). I am also employed and do not stare at eBay all day long, so there may be a slight delay to my response. If you win the car, you are expected to pay for it and pick it up or arrange shipping. End of story. If you would like to see the car in person before bidding, I will be happy to escort you to the car for an inspection. If you win the auction and change your mind after the sale, I will keep the deposit to pay for the eBay fees I have incurred and the car’s lack of salability in a second auction due to a “deadbeat bidder.” Our time is valuable.
