1968 GTO. This car is an original 400. four speed car. Currently sports a V-8 of curious origin, and an automatic turbo 400. I really love driving this car and hate to sell it. But too many projects. The engine is probably a 1975 or 76 350. Numbers suggest this, (block number 500810) however the block letter code is XP which codes as a 67 through 70 ram air block. Lets assume it is the 350 and bid accordingly. Any help with this would be appreciated. This car is in excellent condition from the standpoint of rust repair. There are small spots behind each tire on the front fenders that will need patches and the trunk has surface rust. One of the pictures shows this rust through spot. That is it. I bought this car because of the ease of restoring the body. There will be no need for new quarter panels, wheel wells, or floor pans. Just simple restoration stuff and paint. I can’t stress enough how solid this car is. Front clip needs to be adjusted for fit. Hood has a slight tweek on the passenger side as so many do. I don't know if the hood can be repaired but it doesn't look too bad. This car really needs comeplete restoring. Interior, paint, etc. The engine has a fresh set of #16 heads, and runs really nice but it smokes off and on out of the right bank. Not all the time just kind of randomly. Some days it doesn’t smoke at all. Kind of weird. The only clue I see is that sometimes when you accelerate and then let it down under compression it will smoke. Just driving around under normal conditions it drives really nice and doesn't smoke. Maybe some gear head can fix this thing with out a rebuild but I think the block needs a re-ring at least, Or maybe it is something in the heads. Transmission works great. Someone must have put some work into it because it shifts hard in manual mode, breaks the tires loose shifting from first to second, but shifts smooth and normal in drive. really operates as though it has a quality shift kit installed. B M ratchet shifter. This car has been lowered. I love the look. I don't know what methods have been used but it looks great. It drives and handles great, stops straight as an arrow when you mash the brakes. brakes are front disk, rear drum. Power steering works great. Tires are good and appear as thought they could be used for quite a long time. Wheels are rally II and have been painted black. If reserve is met I will include a great working four speed transmission, bell housing, flywheel, pressure plate and disk ( plate and disk are used and may not be useable but you may as well have it.) This will help the new owner put this back to original standard transmission. The transmission and related pieces are out of a 68 firebird 400. I assume they will work fine but do your homework. Most everything works on this car. Lights, blinkers, wipers, speedo, heater (new core) etc. Gas gauge, amps gauge, oil, pressure don’t work. Hopefully it is something simple in the wiring for the gauge cluster. Exhaust system is new, 2 1/2 inch, turbo mufflers. Sounds really healthy with no exhaust leaks.
