For sale here is a 1994 Pontiac Grand Am four-door. It is a runner and driver, starting reliably and drives without issue. However it does have problems that need addressing. It's biggest issue is underbody rust, a problem that will prevent it from passing the next NY state inspection (it does have a current inspection, but it expires in July). Apart from the underbody, the rust is evident around the wheel area, with the driver's side rear being rusted through. The second problem area is the front passenger's side rocker arm needs replacement, which again will fail it in the NY state inspection. Those are the two items that need fixing to pass inspection. Outside of that, the ring gear is worn and makes for a loud start-up sound. It goes away as soon as the car starts, but it needs mentioning. There are some dents on the body, the main two areas being on the back of the trunk lid and on the rear passenger door. The door locks are electronic, but the driver's side doesn't lock while the rest don't automatically unlock like they're supposed to. The unlocking problem appears to be a fuse problem, losing the cigerette lighter at the same time (coins have had a habit of falling in the lighter and blowing the fuse). The left turn signal comes on, but doesn't blink (probably a flasher problem). It has a new muffer, but the exhaust pipe is "soft" on the end where it connects to the muffler, so there is definite exhaust noise (I did my best to patch this, so it's better but still present). The exterior hood release lever is stiff and needs greasing (a bar to push on the lever will open it, but a good lubricating should take care of it). After that, we getting into the petty issues of the driver side's mirror doesn't move with the little knob, the driver's seat is worn (not torn, but worn), and the interior is generally dirty. That should wrap up all the bad. On the good side, it has been a reliable car over the years and it does have a lot of new parts. The struts and shocks were replaced two years ago, the gas tank was replaced last year as was the alternator and serpentine belt. The motor mounts have all been replaced in the last two years. The muffler was replaced last month. The engine itself runs fairly quiet and has been well cared for with tune-ups and oil changes. Brakes work good and the tires still have some miles left on them. Apart from the left flasher issue, all the lights work fine. Cruise control works good as does the A/C and heat. Clear NY State title. If you want to put the work in to pass the inspection (or if you live in a place that doesn't have such things), this would probably make a good runner for years to come. Or it would make a great parts car. But with our small driveway, and enough projects on my hands for years to come, it's time to make room. Please feel free to ask questions - I'll do my best to answer them.
