***We can help in arranging door to door shipping*** Thank you for visiting our auction. This is a very nice example of a previously owned vehicle but is likely not in perfect condition. If you are looking for a car that is 100 percent perfect, you need to purchase a new car. If you are interested in a very good used car, please consider this car. Up for bid today is a recent bank repo from a major West Coast lender. This 1987 Porsche Carrera Targa was sold new in San Diego, California, at Alan Johnson Porsche. It looks to have always been a California car that has only travelled an average of 3,200 miles per year with a mere 69020 actual miles. I was told this car was in a private collection that was used in a collateral loan. This is a unique opportunity to purchase a collector quality example of one of the most desirable 911’s. The car looks to have been the pride and joy of the previous owner. The body is as close to flawless as you will see in a 21 year old automobile. This car comes with all the books and records from new. It runs and drives fantastic. The 3.2 litre 6 cylinder fires right up and sounds fantastic. The engine compartment looks new as does the underside of the engine compartment. The car looks to have just had a valve job as you can see by the pictures. It also has a stainless steel exhaust that sounds great. We are selling the car as aquired from the bank. Please remember to read all descriptions and terms of the auction before you bid. Please ask any questions you might have prior to bidding. We are happy to accomodate any requests for a personal inspection prior to bidding. Please have all funds available at the end of the auction including loan approvals. We will only accept PayPal for the deposit. We will not accept PayPal for payment of the balance. Here is some history that I dug up on the Porsche 911 Carrera: Porsche 911 Carrera holds a special place in automotive history as one of the purest sports cars of the 80’s. The 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera represented the last version of the 911 to still be based upon the original design that dated back to the mid 1960’s. In the base model a 3.2 liter 6 cylinder engine was mounted in the rear of the car (as with all 911’s), and it produced 214 horsepower and 195 lb-feet of torque. This was an improvement of 12 horsepower and 10 lb-feet of torque over the previous year. This amount of power might not seem very impressive from today’s perspective, but in the late 1980’s it was close to the top of the heap, and the lightweight construction of the 911, combined with its finely-tuned driving dynamics contributed to a very quick car that was solid through the corners. The engine in the 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera was air cooled, and an improved electric fan designed was added to help cool down the oil in the engine. A new 5 speed transmission that functioned better in the cold than previous 911’s was combined with a mechanical clutch to make the vehicle much easier to drive, particularly during the daily commute. Carrera was the general name Porsche had applied across the entire 911 model lineup, and Carreras could be had in a number of different iterations. In addition to the base model there was a Targa option which allowed the center section of the roof to be removed, giving the car a convertible feel without sacrificing as much chassis stiffness.. The 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera remains a popular vehicle amongst collectors and racers alike. Most of the Porsche 911’s from the 1970’s and 80’s made it very easy to interchange engines, making swaps for more power or more modern technologies quite common. The light weight of the car also makes it quite surefooted in a track environment, and the reasonable market prices for these cars puts them at a level where they are affordable to run as a second car. While the interiors of these vehicles could be described as spartan, and they are definitely not the most comfortable cars to drive for people over 6 feet tall, the Porsche 911 Carrera holds a special place in automotive history as one of the purest sports cars of the 80’s. 911 3.2 With the 911’s future ensured , 1983 saw the launch of a replacement for the successful SC series. It was the MY 1984 911 3.2 Carrera, reviving the Carrera name for the first time since 1975. The 911 3.2 Carrera was the last iteration in the original 911 series, with all subsequent models featuring new body styling with new brake, electronic and suspension technologies. A new higher displacement motor, a 3.2 liter horizontally opposed flat 6 cylinder, was utilized. At the time Porsche claimed it was 80% new.[6] The new swept volume of 3164 cc was achieved using the 95 mm bore (from the previous SC model) combined with the 1978 Turbo 3.3 crankshaft's 74.4 mm stroke. In addition, higher domed pistons increased the compression ratio from 9.8 to 10.3:1 (although only 9.5:1 for the US market). New inlet manifold and exhaust systems were fitted. The 915 transmission was carried over from the SC series for the first three model years. In 1987, the Carrera got a new five-speed gearbox sourced from Getrag, model number G50 with proven Borg-Warner synchronizers. This slightly heavier version also featured a hydraulically-operated clutch. With the new engine, power was increased to 207 bhp (152 kW @ 5900 rpm) for North American-delivered cars and to 231 bhp (170 kW @ 5900 rpm) for most other markets. This version of the 911 accelerated 0–60 mph (100 km/h) in 5.4 seconds and had a top speed of 150 mph (242 km/h) as measured by Autocar. Factory times were more modest: 0-60 mph time of 6.3 seconds for the US version and 6.1 seconds for cars outside the American market. The brake discs were increased in size to aid in more effective heat dissipation and improved oil-fed chain tensioners were fitted to the engine. To improve oil cooling, a finned cooler replaced the serpentine lines in the front passenger fender well. This was further improved in 1987, with the addition of a thermostatically controlled fan. Driving refinement and motor reliability were improved with an upgrade of the fuel and ignition control components to a L-Jetronic with Bosch Motronics 2 DME (Digital Motor Electronics system). An improvement in fuel-efficiency was due to the DME providing a petrol cut-off on the overrun. Changes in the fuel map chip programming from October 1986, further improved the power to 217 bhp (160 kW @ 5900 rpm) for North American delivered cars as well as for other markets requesting low emissions, like Germany. Custom-mapped chips remain a popular upgrade. The fuel relay that is mounted externally on the DME is known to be a weak point of the system. Three basic models were available throughout the Carrera years – coupe, targa and cabriolet. When launched in 1984 in the United States, the prices of the 911 Carrera lineup were $31,950 for the coupe, $33,450 for the targa and $36,450 for the cabriolet.[7] Almost indistinguishable from the SC, external clues are the front fog lights, which were integrated into the front valance in the Carrera. Very modest cosmetic changes were made throughout the lifespan of the Carrera, with a redesigned dash featuring larger air conditioning vents appearing in 1986. CLEAN AUTOCHECK!!! However, I don't claim to have gone over every inch of the car inside and out but I have tried to describe the major points as accurately as we know of at the time of the auction. Please remember that this is a used vehicle, and as with any used vehicle, it may have or develop issues or problems at any time. The vehicle is sold as-is, where-is, and with no warranty. Please don't have unreasonable expectations that this is a new car. All information provided in this ad is based on the condition of the car at the time the ad was written. If you would like to view the vehicle prior to bidding, please email me with your telephone number and I will call you to set up an appointment. Please do not wait until the last day of the auction. We know of no reason why you couldn't drive it anywhere, but of course we can not make any guarantee. Please be advised that any vehicle over ten years old is exempt from mileage reporting due to age. Please email any other questions you may have. Please do not email with requests for the reserve. The reserve price will not change what you can afford to pay for the car. It would also not be fair to the other bidders on the car. Bid what you feel comfortable paying for the car. Any requests for reserve price will be ignored. VEHICLE SHIPPING AND PICKUP Vehicles must be picked up within 10 days of the close of the auction. Because we are very limited on space, cars not picked up within 10 days are subject to a $15.00 storage fee. If you need a vehicle shipped, there are numerous shipping companies. DAS shippers has a link through Ebay motors. You can get an online quote instantly. The pick up zip code would be 94556. All shipping charges are to be paid by buyer. If you choose DAS, we can transport your vehicle to the DAS depot in Hayward for an additional $100.00. DAS will charge approximately $200.00 to pick it up at our door. VEHICLE REGISTRATION, SALES TAX, SMOG, ETC. We are a licensed California auto dealer. The state requires that if you are out of state and plan on coming here to pick up your vehicle, California law REQUIRES the buyer to pay sales tax and obtain a one day permit from the Department of Motor Vehicles. This is not my law but the State Board of Equalization. It can be found in Publication 52, May 2005, on the State Board of Equalization website. Here is a quote from it as it pertains to out of state buyers: "For a purchaser to qualify for the exclusion from use tax described above, title (ownership) and possession of the vehicle or vessel must transfer tot he purchaser outside of California. When a purchaser exercises control over the vehicle or vessel in California prior to the planned out-of-state delivery, ownership transfers to the purchaser in California. Therefore, if any person other than the seller, or an agent acting on behalf of the seller, delivers the vehicle or vessel from California to the purchaser at an out-of-state location, ownership transfers to the purchaser in California, and California use tax applies. For example, if a purchaser asks a friend or hires a common carrier to deliver the property from California to himself at any out-of-state location, use tax applies." To obtain clearance of the use tax and I quote again: "Shipping receipts showing the date of delivery to a shipping agent and the date the property was delivered to the owner (if the vehicle or vessel was shipped). the recepts should include information that clearly describes the vehicle or vessel, such as the vehicle's identification number (VIN#) or license plate number, or the vessel's California registration number (CF#) or hull identification number (HIN#). If the recepts do not provide adequate information, you may need to provide additional documentation. Also, a vehicle purchaser may use from BOE-448, Statement of Delivery Outside California, to support the fact that the vehicle was delivered outside this sate." If you are a California resident, we collect sales tax, registration fee, documenation fee, and a $50.00 smog inspection fee. We then provide you with registration in the window so you can legally drive the vehicle until your title and license plates arrive in the mail. If you are an out of state buyer, you will need to pay a $55.00 documentation fee in addition to the price of the vehicle. PAYMENT INFORMATION Please follow the rules of the auction after it is completed regarding deposit and full payment deadlines. Anyone not following auction rules will be reported to Ebay and appropriate feedback will be left. There is a clear title on the vehicle. A non refundable $500 deposit must be sent within 24 hours of close of auction via Paypal, money order or cashier's check. Full payment needs to be received within 5 days of close of auction and must be paid via cash, cashier's check, or money order. If you reside outside the continental US you must pay via wire transfer. Please don't bid if you are unable to follow the rules. We do not finance vehicles. You mush have your funds readily available at the end of the auction for payment. Your bid is a binding contract to purchase a vehicle. We do not accept credit cards. Due to an increase in Deadbeat bidders, we must insist on a nonrefundable down payment deposit within 24 hours of close of auction. Failure to leave the downpayment will result in appropriate negative feedback and I will turn the case over the Ebay Dealers Development and let them handle the situation. Simply put....don't bid unless you are prepared to follow the terms of the auction. VEHICLE REGISTRATION There is a clear title on the car. All vehicles that are sold to California buyers that legally require a smog inspection will include the smog unless otherwise stated in the auction. Any California buyer will be responsible for all state sales tax, license and documentation fees. Out of state buyers will need to contact their own DMV office for registration and transfer information. We will collect a $55.00 documentation fee from out of state buyers. Thank you and we look forward to doing business with you. On Oct-05-08 at 21:42:54 PDT, seller added the following information: Sellers: Delight buyers. Get your own map of past buyers.
