Vehicle Description
After some negotiations, the car is back on the market. Had a lot of questions the first time around, and I will try to answer these questions for everyone. I will try to describe as best I can. What we have here is a 1979 Porsche 911 SC Sunroof Coupe. The car can be described as a very good driver condition car. The car has slightly less than 132000 miles on it. The history on the car is I bought it a year ago after it had been in storage for 2 years. All I had to do to get it started when I first saw it was to place a charger to the drained battery and the car started on the first crank without any difficulties at all. There was a bit of smoke at first (expected after a two year hiatus), but it soon cleared after it warmed. The drive home was the first road trip it had in two years.
Before the car was placed in storage, the PO had it resprayed with a quality paint job because the original was a little faded. This is not a 5 footer or a 10 footer respray. As you can see from the pictures, the paint is clean and shiny. It is not show car quality, but it is definitely not something you will be ashamed of if someone walks right up to it. From my knowledge (from the PO), the car is straight with no history of any accidents. The doors close like it should, with a solid clank. The gaps are consistant throughout the car. The car has no rust. It has been a CA car as evidence by the blue/gold license plate. In essence, a very straight and solid body. The car benefitted from a new windshield during the respray. The sunroof and power side mirrors ceased working after the respray.
As for the interior, the original seats were replaced with a set of very comfortable and lightweight Corbeau seats. The seats do slide to fit a 6 footer. As with many cars of this age, the dash is cracked. The rest of the interior is in very good condition. The headliner has a small rip of about 1-2 inches that I accidentally made while examining the motor for the sunroof. The motor does work. Other than that, the headliner is in great condition. The rear seats have been removed for weight saving, but I do have a set if interested. I have replaced all three power window switches because they felt a bit hard to orperate. The car appears to have AC that worked when I tested it last year, but doesn't appear to be blowing the same cold air it did before. The sound system is a Sony cd/controller with remote. The grills for the speakers are not mounted on permanently because I didn't want to cut into the sides panels. The capert is in very good condition with out any worn spots.
Mechanically the car is very strong. As previously stated, the car starts with no problems at all. I do not know if the engine has ever been rebuilt, but by the feel of it, I wouldn't be surprised if it had been rebuilt at one time or another. The transmission shifts very well. I am able to go through all the gears without any drama, even between first and second. The engine pulls very hard in all of the gears. It starts, go and stop like a Porsche should. There is NO smoke, NO leaks, and NO air box explosions during my ownership. It does have the pop off valve installed. I was told it also had the Carrera tensioner. I've only had the pleasure of driving this car the last six months because it took me the first six months to locate all of the EGR and air pump parts as well as a Porsche technician to installed these parts (cost $1000 parts/labor). Needless to say, the car passed CA smog without any issues at all. I have the printout if interested. It actually passed CA smog even before the EGR and air pump were installed. But because CA requires a visual inspection as well as a mechanical inspection, it failed on the visual part. While the engine was dropped for the EGR/air pump installation, I had the technician adjusted the valves and replace the oil filter, air filter, and some other parts I can't remember. The car has logged on no more than 500 miles since that period of time. My daily driver is a minivan because of my preschooler. I would not have any reservations driving this car anywhere in the country just as long as the front tires are replaced before doing so. I replaced the rear tires (78-80%) but have not gotten around to doing the fronts.
My only reason for selling the car is because I just bought a 72 911 that I am hoping to restore in the near future. I would keep her, but I hardly have the time to drive one 911, not to mention two. Like for so many, this was my dream car when I was 10, especially with the front and rear Carrera tail. I've lowered my asking price after taking into consideration the possible recharge for the AC, repair for the S/R and new front tires, but I also don't want to give a very good solid car away either.
More than happy to answer any addition questions you may have. Additional pics at:

Good:
*Front and rear spoilers ($500)
*Drilled rotors
*Just added EGR/air pump to pass smog in CA
The car passed smog even without the EGR/air pump, but because CA requires a visual inspection as well as a mechanical inspection, I had to pay $500 just for the EGR set up.
*Valves adjusted less than 500 miles ago-done at the same time as the EGR install
*Newer shocks
*Brand new 16x7 replica fuchs with painted center caps at $200 each wheel
*Brakes are in good shape
*Pop off valve
*Was told it had the Carrera chain tensioner upgrade, but have not verify yet
*New air filter
*New bulbs all around on exterior except for headlights
*Momo steering wheel
*Corbeau seats-much lighter than the original seats
*Rear seats available if interested
*No rust
*Sony AM/FM/CD/Controller with remote
*Turbo valve covers
*New battery
*New windshield
*New window switches
Bad:
*Sunroof motor works but it doesn't open. This is probably due to the new paint job.
*Power mirrors ceased working after the paint job as well.
*Cracked dash
*Rear tires at 75-80%, fronts should be replaced soon
*AC may need to be recharged
This car is being sold as is.
