3 owner, 1968, California black plate 911L Targa. 1 of only 134 imported into the U.S. and last production year for the short wheel base 911. For those who don't know, the 911L is the '67 911S equipped with a de-tuned engine. Mechanically speaking, this 911 is far from factory. Installed in place of the original 2.0 litre engine is an '88, 3.2 litre 911 Carrera engine. It is mounted to a rebuilt 915 transmission. The top end was rebuilt (24,500 miles ago) and upgraded using 3.4 litre high compression pistons and cylinders. New, twin plug heads were ported and installed with a dual Crankfire ignition system at a cost of $8,500. A TEC3r crankshaft referenced engine management and fuel injection system ( http://www.electromotive-inc.com/products/tec3.html ) was also installed at a cost of over $6,000 along with many other high performance upgrades. As evidenced by the receits, most work was completed by either G D Racing or South Beach Engine Service of Northern California. A small, incomplete sample list follows: S.S.I. HEAT EXCHANGES S.S. MUFFLER ALUMINUM FLYWHEEL, KEP PRESSURE PLATE, CLUTCH DISC AND T/O BEARING $1,500 WEVO "CLASSIC" SHIFTER EXTERNAL FRONT FENDER MOUNTED OIL COOLER EIGEN CAMS SC FRONT DISC BRAKES W/ BREMTEK CALIPERS I posses a folder of receits for this car that is over an inch tall. It dates back to '69 and when added up totals over $60,000. This car has been meticulously maintained and obsessively upgraded. While in my care, it's reliability has been bullet proof. Just a small warning, this car may not be for everyone. it is fast, very fast. It weighs in at roughly 2,500 lbs., sounds like an evil panther and according to the previous owner was dyno-tuned and tested at 266 HP. while it's reliability has proven it to be worthy of a "daily driver", this car was meant to be DRIVEN. There is not a spot of oil where it has been parked for these past nearly 2 years. It does not smoke (after warming up), make strange noises or act disagreeable in any way. As for the exterior, there is one small ding on the rear deck lid I would consider minor, and a couple of others that are insignificant. The gaps are "OK" and the paint is fair. It underwent a transformation from it's original red to white in '84 at a cost of $3,500. Almost all the money spent on this car has gone into improving it's performance. In the areas where the undercoating has flaked off, there is minor cosmetic surface rust.; This car resided in N. Ca. for over 38 years and another nearly 2 in the even drier climate of New Mexico. The windshield has a couple of repairable "stars" caused by road gravel. The Cibie fog lights are wired up but not "hot". The headlights were upgraded to H-4's. A clear film bra protects the nose of the front hood but there are some small chips of paint lost to the road on the steel "S" bumper. The wheels were upgraded to Fuch alloys. I believe they measure 16"x7" but they could be 6's. They are mounted to Kumho Ecsta Supra tires (205/55ZR16 91W) which still maintain most of their tread. The interior is mostly original. The front seats have been upgraded to late model 911 ones. The steering wheel is now a MOMO "Corse". The mechanical speedometer was converted by Palo Alto Speedometer to a 150 MPH electronic one. The Targa top was reupholstered and new P.E.P. retractable 3 point seatbelts were installed. The clock and cigarette lighter do not function. The drivers side wing window opens, closes and locks but will not stay open past ten MPH. I have a key for the glove box but not for the front trunk lock. There is no radio. The dash is in perfect, crack-free condition and the heat this engine puts out will amaze. The car is currently registered and titled in New Mexico. Both black plates that were issued by the state of California to this vehicle will be included with the sale of the car. As long as you can provide proof (which I have) that the plates are original issue for the car, they can be used on it again. I reserve the right to end the auction early. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. Full payment is expected within 5 days of auction's end. I am not a Porsche guru. I bought this car based strictly on it's performance. It was built by people far more capable and knowledgeable than myself. I have done my best to accurately describe it. If you have any questions about the car or simply want to correct my description, please let me know. I have enjoyed this car immensely for nearly two years now and will be sad to see it go but my desire to set up a blacksmith shop has taken precedence and I can't have both. I have included video clip links to Youtube below where you watch the car accelerate from 0-100MPH in 12 seconds or so, give or take. In the second clip you can hear the engine idle and rev up to roughly 7,000 RPM. Thanks for looking. I was made aware by a fellow '68 911L owner that this car was most likely a rare soft window Targa that had been converted. I was told to look behind the Targa bar for the tensioners. As he suspected, I found the remnants of the tensioners. I will try add the photo soon.
