Dry and original are the two words that best describe this extremely nice example of a well preserved and maintained 1966 3-gauge Porsche 912. Manufactured on March 08 of 1966 it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA/Kardex) from Porsche, Chassis 455789 with matching engine 745974 and transmission 161612 - 902/0 four speed, Sand Beige paint (6607), Light Brown Leatherette C interior, and optional tinted glass. Estate car with 56, 000 miles, which appears to be true but is not documented. There is no, repeat NO rust anywhere. All underbody fasteners and body vent drains are in perfect condition (see photo). It looks like this 912 has never been driven in the rain – it’s that clean. The photos say it all. Paint is in exceptional condition (8 out of 10) with only a few chips. Some panels have been repainted but it’s hard to tell where original paint leaves off. Non-original items include Weber carbs and replacement carpet, both door panels and both front seat covers. All other parts of the interior appear to be original. The Kardex calls for a wooden steering wheel, but there is a period correct replacement with leather horn button pad. Engine compartment sheet metal was powder coated and hardware re-plated by PO. The car runs just like it should with smooth shifting in all gears and no unusual noises. The speedo drive leaks. The original wool truck carpet was thrown out because of age, but can easily be replaced with new aftermarket. The rear brakes drag a bit, but pads and rotors have very little wear. This is a very dry, original car with perfectly straight body panels without a dent anywhere. The windshield must be new because there is not a chip or mark on it and is stamped Sigla, made in West Germany. The chassis was undercoated at some point by PO, but it is NOT hiding any rust – there is no rust anywhere, period. Chrome Wheels, also listed on the CoA, are in fair-good condition all with correct date stamp (12/65) including the spare. Chrome bumper guards are also original, as are Bosch signal lenses with original markings and Hella headlight lenses. Radio is also original. Includes partial tool kit, jack and original driver’s manual in exceptionally good condition. The dash is in absolutely perfect condition with no cuts or blemishes. The headliner is also original and in fair-good condition. The chrome rear view mirror has the usual pitting. The temperature gauge does not function, but a mechanical gauge was installed into the dipstick tube to measure the oil temperature, which never got above 180 degrees F when the outside temperature was above 80 degrees F. The ignition switch does not start the car – there is a separate momentary starter button located under the dash which also functions as a security device. The muffler and exhaust are original style, very quiet, with some type of anti-rust treatment applied. All of the anti-rust measures indicate that the previous owner was interested in preserving this 912 in its original condition -- and it shows. Transaction Details I have a perfect eBay score and will not tolerate anyone who goes through the effort of bidding but is not serious. Anyone with negative feedback needs to contact me before bidding or I will remove you from the process. International bidders with are welcome but you have to arrange ALL shipping from where the car is now garaged in Connecticut. If you are from overseas, the nearest ports are New York, New Jersey and Providence, all of which are within 100 miles of where the car is located. The car is sold as is. No warranty expressed or implied. Inspections welcomed. A $2,000 non refundable deposit via bank wire transfer is due within 36 hours after the auction ends. The balance is due also via bank wire transfer within three days after the auction. Buyer is responsible for any and all taxes if applicable and for shipping. The reserve is set at a fair price considering a car of this quality. You can certainly buy a 66 912 for less, but the labor and money needed to get the body, chassis and mechanicals to this condition will certainly be higher. The car is advertised elsewhere and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Please email or call me at 203-453-2728 with any questions before bidding. On Oct-13-08 at 05:18:02 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional original items include rubber floor mats front and rear and center rubber tunnel mat, mushroom type gear shift knob, and plastic battery cover. New Bosch blue coil has been painted black with original style decal added. Engine compartment insulation is missing.
