For Sale: 1968 Porsche 912 R The car is Euro spec, meaning it has some features which were not available on the US spec cars. Clear front parking lights, amber rear turn signals, Euro parking lights (operated by the turn signal stalk, when the vehicle has been parked and turned off), and steering column lock. It also has front and rear factory sway bars which were not common on a 912. The front valence (bumper, air dam) started out as a fiberglass reproduction of the Carrera RS, but was customized to delete the oil cooler opening and give it an aggressive, smooth look. The front fenders (wings) clearly have the nice flair of the 1969 – 1973. The rear fenders (wings) have the Carrera RS flairs. These are not fiberglass, they are true metal parts. The rear bumpers are metal too. The rear engine deck lid is from a 1993 911, which mates perfectly on the car. And yes, one push of a button the electric spoiler deploys another push of the button it retracts. Gives the best of both worlds, as far the look of the back of the car and also gives a blast of cool air to the engine, just as it did with the 911 in 1993. After the car was stripped of its old paint (bare metal) the car was given beautiful new color. Though not a color that was offered in 1968, the new color is still a factory Porsche color. (Paint code Y1 – Seal grey). No rust, rot, or holes in this car. There was no rust before this project started, so the car has not been welded back together. The wheels are not reproductions and have the Porsche part numbers on the backsides. They are 15X7 up front and 15X8 in the rear. Inside the car, a full compliment of gauges, let you know is going on and they all work. The steering wheel is a Momo, leather wrap and has a padded center. The carpet is all new and is the Carrera style which covers the side panels and the back deck to the rear window. I do have the rear seats, just not installed in the car. To install them takes about 5 minutes. The new headliner is black and is an original Porsche part. Porsche eight way power seats with the Porsche crest embossed on the headrest. A new set of fully retractable seat belts. The radio is a factory refurbished CDR 220 Porsche system. I have everything you will need to connect it to your favorite amp. Since I am selling the car, I decided the new owner should decide how he wants the sound system to be. The machine work was performed by Competition Engineering, with the direction of Will, at Classic Speed Parts, and the engine assembly was performed by Vic Skirmants, of 356 Enterprises. The 86mm pistons and cylinders brought the engine displacement up to 1720cc, with a 9.1:1 comp-ratio. The cam is new European billet, 266 duration (degree). The cylinder heads were free of any cracks and rebuild with new valves, valve seats, valve springs and rocker arm assemblys rebuild. The engine still uses the stock push rods and of course new tappets were installed. The 912 crank has a one under regrind and was balanced with the flywheel, pressure plate and front pulley. Also the case is standard size. The 912 connecting rods were reconditioned and balanced all within one gram of each other. The engine uses 40 IDF XE carburetors. The carbs have been set up with 32mm diameter venturis, 130 main jets, 65 idle jets and F7 emulsion tubes. They are attached to the Solex intake manifolds with Weber adaptor plates. The factory oil can filter has been by-passed and a full flow oil system installed. The engine front cover was modified for this and the oil pump cover was replaced with a Classic Speed Parts oil pump cover with the built in pressure relief valve. The oil is taken to the Fram HP-1 filter byway of Aeroquip braided steel lines. I have not put this engine on a dyno. My estimate would be the engine is putting out between 100 to 110 HP. The engine was assembled with reliability, long life, fuel economy and street use in mind. If there are any questions please e-mail me at iraq280@yahoo.com. Or call me at (336)462-4084 Keith Starling
