Vehicle Description
This is an original Porsche 914-6. I am the second owner. I bought the car in 1985 and drove it for 3 years. In 1986 I added a front sway bar, upgraded to 16 x 6 inch wheels, and added stiffer rear springs. In 1988 the car had 190,000 original miles and I decided to start a complete restoration project. I completely disassembled the car and had a thorough body and paint job completed by Springer Body Paint, in San Jose, CA. The restoration project then stalled out and I put everything into storage for 13 years (parts in boxes, engine on a pallet and the rolling body).
The body and paint job done by Springer Body Paint was good, especially the body work was very straight. There are some slight blisters that formed long ago in the paint mainly on the front and rear decks. This was probably caused by how I stored the car, not the original paint job. Thay are not very noticable except up close.
In 2001 I hauled everything to Sportech in Campbell, CA and had the car reassembled and restored. The work included a new interior, new carburators, upgraded front brakes and a complete engine rebuild. The engine was upgraded to 2.2 liters with Solex cams installed. In 2003 I added a "sport" type exhaust. I have the original exhaust and it is included in the sale.
The rebuilt engine has about 30,000 miles on it now. A used odometer was installed during the restoration which now has 49,728 miles showing. The engine has no oil leaks. It burns a quart every 1,000 - 1,500 miles, which I understand is normal.
The car runs good but is due for a tune-up. Frone tires are good, rear tires just reached the wear bars.
