Vehicle Description
This car is (after 5 years of ownership and about 10 grand invested) mechanically perfect. The engine was completely rebuilt less than 200 miles ago to spec with all OEM parts including but not limited to: valves, covers, cylinders, one piston and sleeve, rings, bushings, gaskets, heads, and all 4 fuel injectors, as my mechanic told me-- everything but the camshaft (which you can't find anymore). The car idles smoothly at 1200, and has surprisingly fast pick-up for a four stroke. The transmission was totally rebuilt about 2000 miles ago including the linkage, entire clutch, and cables-- shifting is smooth and firm, a real rarity in these cars. All the above work was performed at EJ Auto by an elderly German gentleman named Jake who used to work the line in Stuttgart. There's still about 4-5 months warranty on the engine work. Other work includes: 80% of the electrical, fuel pump and lines, thermostat, oxygen sensors, starter, new strut, plugs, distributor, battery, and wiper motor. All signals, lights, locks, wipers and gauges work. This car is completely original except for the rear valance (fiberglass), side mirror (but will come with one), the center cushion (a nice repro), and the stereo(an Alpine which works fine with an Ipod).
The problems with the car are all minor, and mostly cosmetic: chips and cracks in the paint and interior, primarily on the driver seat which should be re-apholstered (so I'll throw in the groovy cover), and yes a few on the dash, a missing head-light knob (you can still pull out base to turn on lights), a broken trunk-roller, deteriorating driver side floor mat, and a 10" scrape on the passenger door that body-shops said they'd easily take out, no charge, with a new paint job, which was next on my list, and what this car DESERVES. As you can see from the pictures, its still a very nice looking car. There's only a little surface rust in the rear trunk, starting to form on the rear chrome bumper, and in some of the tiny paint chips. It was a California car all its life before me, and I never drove it in winter, and kept it covered. Floor pans are solid, and no battery issue. Weather stripping around top and some window areas should be replaced, and will be included in the auction (about $350 worth).Car also has a good alarm system. All the hard stuff is done on this car. The engine, transmission, clutch and fuel injectors alone were $6500, so that’s as low as I’ll go. If my new place had a two- car garage, I wouldn't be selling it.
