Vehicle Description Locost Chassis built with the McSorley plans. -Book sized chassis -Tig Welded I’m sure you know what a locost is since you’re here, but if not it’s a scratch-built replica of a Lotus/Caterham Super 7. Additional information is available at http://www.mcsorley.net/locost/ and http://www.locostusa.com/ There is a LOT of internet support on these in addition to the above. Everything from build advice and parts to licensing information. Note: I’ve build and sold two of these and was building this one for myself, so it’s a bit special: I replaced some of the rear tubes with 1.5” .095 wall DOM to have a better base for a roll bar or cage. The DOM sits on a 1x2 12ga. Piece of rectangular stock, again stronger than the plans dictate. Finally, the top plates are made of 3/16 steel (Plans call for 1/8”) which have been drilled and tapped, with nuts welded to the back, to have a place to bolt the cage or bar. Some of the braces I made of 1” round instead of 1” square. They are marginally lighter, and look cooler. What can I say? Round is also a bunch more expensive. Other than those benefits it was made to the McSorley Plans. 42” wide. ***There are several other tubes that will be necessary depending on your drivetrain and suspension choices. Keep in mind that additional welding and fitting will need to be done as you progress towards a finished car. *** This is a great starting point for those who are mechanically inclined but don’t have the time or space to construct the full frame. This is the third frame I've built. I sold the first on ebay late last year, and the second earlier this year. I can build one of these for you. Call 502-403-6832 for more information. I can incorporate some of the common modifications into a chassis, or build a +4 or +442 chassis for the taller and/or wider folks. If you are local, I can work with you towards a complete car. Obviously this is a major undertaking. This can be picked up in Louisville, KY, or shipped. I found some great rates at www.Freightcenter.com , I will crate it and drop it off at a terminal for $200, with the buyer paying the shipper directly. If you get a quote with the above company, enter the zip codes, 40213 for me, choose 225 lbs (I've overestimating on the crate weight, the frame weighs 100 lbs.), 120x48x24 inches. You'll also have to specify terminal to terminal and choose a freight class. If you have trouble contact me and I'll help, or call freightcenter directly. I can keep this for maybe a week or two after the auction ends, but will have to be paid IN ADVANCE if this is the case. Also, let me know in advance if you want to do this. I’m pretty reasonable. Feel free to ask questions, I’ll be happy to answer them. I take cash, good local check, cashier’s check, Money Order or Paypal. You can look at this during the course of the auction in Louisville, KY. Call and we’ll set up an appointment. Thanks for looking.
