Vehicle Description Gentlemen, What I am offering today is the pride and joy of my car collection. This is a 1966 Ford Cobra 427SC Replica with an original NASCAR 427 cubic inch Ford Side Oiler engine. Yes, for those who don’t know the Side Oiler, was designed and built with additional oil passages that go down the side of the block to provide more oil to the main bearing journals, giving additional lubrication and cooling during sustained racing periods. This is the engine that allowed the Ford Cobras to win and dominate the 24 hour Lemans Race and a number of other circuits. ////////////////////////////////////////////// I had this car professionally built for me by a factory distributor about 15 years ago. I have primarily used it as a show car, and today it has less then 6,800 total miles. The car sits and drives perfectly. I wanted the car to look and drive as the originals did, and it does just that. The one picture shown with the car by the ocean was taken in 1998 for inclusion in an exotic car calendar. ////////////////////////////////////////// This car has been registered and driven in the state of California ever since it was built. For those who live in California, you will be happy to know that this car is registered as a 1966 Ford, and it has been inspected and certified by the State Bureau of Automotive Repair (see the photo of the car certificate). It does not require smog inspections, and it does not need to be re-inspected. This is a great car, there is No Reserve. ///////////////// The Car: The body and frame were made by Contemporary Classic Industries, also known as the Contemporary Cobra. These were the best of the replica bodies available at that time, and the molds were made directly from an original 427SC. The hood scoop is put on with rivets as was the original. The paint is Ferrari Red with two white racing stripes. This is urethane paint with a clear coat that has been polished to an excellent shine. It might have a few road chips, but you would be hard pressed to find them standing two feet away. I have won best paint at some shows, and I often win people’s choice awards because of the overall look and originality. The pictures do not do the paint justice as it is too hard to get a good picture on the paint in the sunshine.////////// Frame/Suspension: Contemporary used a structurally stiff frame that was basically the same design as the original (okay, so I am an engineer). It uses two primary heavy duty round steel tubes as a stiff base. The front suspension is Jaguar Independent with adjustable torsion bars and Wilwood high performance disc brakes. The steering is Rack and Pinion. The rear suspension is fully independent Jaguar e-Type Salisbury with the Jaguar in-board disc brakes. The rear axle is Posi-Traction. The brakes use a power booster hidden under the front fender. The wheels are two piece aluminum replicas of the originals (15 inch) and the tires are brand new with less that 200 miles on them.////// Engine/Transmission: As mentioned, the engine is a 1966 Ford 427 FE Side Oiler. The engine alone cost me $20K when I had it professionally built-up 15 years ago. At the time it was put on a dyno and recorded 516 horsepower. I believe the compression ratio is 11:1, but it has been a while and I am not certain. It has a single Holly 750 double pumper carb, on an aluminum manifold. The transmission is also the ones that Shelby used. It is the 4 speed close-ratio top loader tranny. The gear shift lever has the correct reversed bend to make it easy to drive. This combination is stout, durable and provides amazing performance. The clutch is a McLeod racing unit. I installed this after the original Ford unit disintegrated in 1996 (too much horsepower). The engine has an Olberg oil filter/strainer that is used in racing, and that will provide a warning light in the cockpit if a metal particle is found. It also has an electronically controlled distributer advance (hidden under the dash) so that you can adjust (advance) the timing if you want more power at higher RPM. With over 500 horsepower, and a weight of only 2,200 pounds, the guys in the new Z06’s will just look on in awe.////////////////////////// Interior: The standard bucket seats, door panels and dash are covered in Black leather, and the carpet is black with a slight green tint. Both seats are provided with Simpson Racing Belts with twin shoulder straps. You can use the lap belts only, or you can strap on the shoulder straps for more confidence. A fire extinguisher is mounted between the seats. The dash is laid out like the original. Original style Smith’s gauges are used for the Tach and Speedo, but they just weren’t reliable enough for use on the others. There are no side windows, top, or radio…if you want those don’t buy a Cobra.//////////////// Bidders are reminded that they are entering into a binding contract. If you have an E-bay rating of less then 10, please contact me before you bid. I do not want/need any trades. The car is available for inspection in Santa Clara, California.
