WILDTHINGS Collector Cars is pleased to present this especially desirable icon of Ultimate Musclecar Performance. Introduced in 1965, the wide-body 427 Cobra was the ultimate American performance road car. It shattered all prior 0-100-0 MPH records for a street-legal “race car,” and was capable of 0-60 in less than 4 seconds. The top speed was estimated at 180MPH. The combination of smooth flowing lines, lightweight body and chassis matched to seemingly unlimited power made for an unforgettable experience. Today, original 427 Shelby Cobras with a documented race history have surpassed $2.5 Million at auction. Fortunately the look and feel of an original can still be had for a fraction of that price, and with better technology. A strong offer is all that stands between you and this beautiful example.
OUR COBRA: It is likely that this roadster was produced in the early 1990s and was completed and titled in 1995. The body manufacturer is unknown. Ownership history indicates that the 302 was balanced and blueprinted prior to installation and the odometer was set at zero. Today the odometer reads 3,725 and has only been driven about 100 miles in seven years, according to documentation. A prior owner was contacted and he admitted driving and showing the car at Woodward Dream Cruise. He recalled the motor being rated in excess of 350 horsepower. All known owner history will be provided to the new owner.
The drive train and everything under the hood appears to be untouched from original completion with few recent upgrades. (If it is not broken...) It is a 302 with Edelbrock aluminum intake and four-barrel carburetor. Power brakes, hydraulic clutch and rack-and-pinion steering make driving a pleasure. The motor runs smoothly and sounds incredible with the open exhaust pipes. The transmission shifts well and does not appear to have any issues. I have only shifted into fifth gear a couple of times, because you can hit 60mph in second gear!!! The gauges appear to function properly.
The paint shows as though it is the original application and presents reasonably well. There are some chips but no signs of cracks or damage or repair. The quality and fit of the body and panels are better than most fiberglass cars that I have seen. Note that the body has the proper wheel arches and flairs that are not always found on replica cars. For show purposes the paint should be refinished in my opinion, but looks good from 10 feet or at speeds above 80MPH... The overall finish is very worthy of a daily driver at the least. I have found no rust or corrosion in the chassis or suspension. The trunk and floor pans are solid and presentable. The wheels are bolt-on Halibrand-style with Toyo 600+R 295/50R15 and Toyo 600-F3 215/60R15.
The interior and upholstery appears to be the original fitting as it shows a realistic amount of wear. It is uncommon to find a custom fitted interior of this color and it works well with the paint scheme. FYI: The driver seating arrangement is comfortable for someone of about 5’10”-5’11”, but may not be as usable for a person over 6’ without seating adjustment. Also note that the car does NOT have proper seat belts and need purchased and fitted before meeting modern standards.
Overall, it is an honest quality automobile that has been used sparingly over the last 12 years. It offers many original-style features that are not often found on FFR roadsters or other replica Cobras. It might cost $25-30,000 to purchase all of the bits and pieces to build a “kit car” and then add the time/money to put it together. This is a finished turn-key car that is ready to enjoy. Why wait?
This is a great collector’s item ready for enjoyment.
This car may be seen and driven prior to auction end- An honest offer may buy it!We may consider a trade for a quality collector car or muscle car.
