~1985 TOYOTA 4RUNNER~
BEST 1st Gen Toyota ~ ARIZONA NATIVE SINCE 1985 ~ **NO RUST**
For your consideration is my baby, my project of love that I have spent the last 4 years perfecting. I bought her bone stock; I am the third (actually technically second) owner of this 4Runner! She was bought in Payson, AZ in 1985 and since that point stayed in Phoenix her whole life. The elderly man who owned it passed, his daughter got it and I got it from her. At that point it had just at 204k miles. Since then, we have only driven it to work and back and maybe a wheeling trip here and there! I have built her to what my idea of what a 1st Generation 4Runner should be, without making it ridiculously over done! She's been taken good care of! You too will sure to be the envy of your 4 Wheelin' buddies by owning such a TREASURE as this is! Other people will marvel at this Runner even just sitting at a traffic light or cruising downtown on the weekend! On the trail, even more respect and admiration this Runner will get! It's really something in itself, and you won't see one int his high of a condition in a long time.
The wife accepts I have this 23 yr old ‘mistress’, and now due to a very recent severe back injury, I must part with this beautiful Mistress! I can no longer drive her, wheel her or enjoy all the looks I get! My wife enjoys those luxuries now.
I have been told by more people than I can count that this is one of the nicest, cleanest, tastefully done 1st Gen 4Runners they have seen! This is the first year of the 22RE and the SFA. This is a HARD TO FIND truck, in this condition! She has no trail rash or dents from abuse, this Runner has ALWAYS been garage kept and pampered!! I pieced this lift together out of the best parts available. It's a complete spring lift with no body lift. The front springs are exceptional quality and flex like crazy. I have put it on a RTI once and was very impressed with how the lift performs! The engine is very stout and can push the 33's without a problem!
Now, she will make you happy both on the trail and cruising down the street.
I have over 40 pictures of different angles of the truck, I encourage all bidders to inspect this before buying – I want her new home to be one of love and care, not a smashed up wreck in 6 months! I will try and list all the things I can think that has been done to her and the miles since done. I also have a ton of spare parts which, if the price is right, will accompany her to her new home! She has about 230k on the body, drivetrain has much less! There was one accident, someone did turn left in front of me. This accident was body damage only, no frame or engine damage. There's more that has been done to her than things needed to be done to her! However, with any 23 yr old truck, some very minor things remain unfinished. The only things I can think of are:
a. Front Axle Birf’s leak, they need to be redone!
b. Interior needs to be finished. I was going to go Greay and do the floor in Roll in Liner.
c. Eventually, upgrade the gears on her from the stock 4.10 to 4.88 or 5.29’s. A Locker or two as well!
This is one of the finest, 23 year old 1st Generation Toyota’s I have seen. There isn’t a single spot of rust on the body, frame or interior. She is truly a survivor. My injuries are now your gain. This is hard enough on me, I hope the new owner will adore her as much as I have! I have a clear, AZ title in hand! NOT A SALVAGE!!! If I left out anything, I will add as I can. I will happily coordinate with the winning bidder to either have this shipped (not sure if a height issue may be present due to lift), deliver it locally or pick you up at the airport for you out of town bidders. If you decide to fly in and drive it home, the local airport is Phoenix Sky Harbor and is about 20 -25 minutes from my home. Airport code PHX. Please see the question posted below - if it will be driven I will change the oil and replace the two tires with the least amount of tread just for safe measures. The headlights are Sylvania Silver Star series and really illuminate the road at night. Add to that the KC's and you could see for almost a mile down the highway (KC's are 150w Ice Blue off-road lights and are considered illegal to use on road.) JB

There has been an overwhelming amount of interest in this very clean, well kept '85 4Runner. I have been very happy with the amount of attention this Toyota has gotten. I am going to lower the reserve to sweeten the deal for all of you who are watching bidding the auction. I have done my research on other 4Runners that have and haven't sold here on eBay. I feel, and have had others agree, that the price range I have in mind is worth the truck, not to mention all the goodies you get with her!
I want to make sure that I have full disclosure on this 4Runner, so anyone who wishes to inspect her or for the winning bidder at delivery, that they understand completely everything that has been done and the things still left to complete - no one should be disappointed! I have found a couple things out since originally listing this ad, so I wanted to let you watchers and bidders know:
At times, the rear window does get a bit tempermental. By this, I mean 85% of the time both the key and the in cab switch roll the window up and down. The other 15% sometimes it just takes a minute or two of driving to get the window to go up or down. I think it's a bad connection. If you drive it for a 1/2 mile and then roll t up, it then works.
The factory toggle (in cab) is missing the 'Rear Window wiper' switch. The rear wiper isn't on because of the recent paint job, but I do have it. I will try and get it installed before delivery.
The interior was completely stripped down before the paint as the carpet was old and needed to be replaced. So, as previously mentioned, the interior needs to be finished. I was going to do a grey interior with the yellow exterior.
The truck has a sony head unit, with two 6x9's in the back. There is an antenna, however it's run along the passenger A piller, on the outside. I didn't want to try and mount it on the fiberglass fenders.
The truck DOES NOT BURN OIL or LEAK OIL (Front Axle excluded as previously disclosed) from engine, tranny or transfercase. The bellhousing was moist from the previous engine which had a rear main leak. I check the fluids frequently and have not had to add to any of them!
I will consider trades for a Toyota 4 door SUV. Something that isn't lifted like mine, but is 4wd. Please email me and I will let you know if it's something I would trade for. It must be a lateral transaction!

Something to add - I forgot to mention the fact I have a printed out copy, as well as a PDF of the 1985 Toyota 4Runner Factory Service Manual (over 700+ pages) in a binder that will be going with this truck. A Haynes book too! Additionally, I have the complete pictorial progress of this Runner I will burn to a CD for you, so you have her history while in my care. This includes the recent engine replacement, past accident repairs, paint job and complete 5" lift (the two days it took to complete) in pictures. I also have a second, good metal/copper radiator that will go with the truck. So, you are really getting a lot of stuff to be able to use if needed or sell if you want! Here are three shots of the engine compartment and one different view, looking from the rear of the Runner. The engine compartment is dirty, it's been driven and driven in heavy rain. However, I don't believe in dressing the engine up, it implies you hiding something and is the nastiest thing!
