Vehicle Description
This was my mom's car. It has been sitting for the last three years and now it is time to make some room on the driveway. The vehicle has NEVER been smoked in.
My mom was a fuss budget - she would take the car in for regular oil changes and do anything the dealer told her she should do on the car. She loved this car. She bought a $39 dash board cover (and that always bugged my dad for this outlandish expenditure) but it kept the dash perfect. No cracks or bleaching whatsoever.
As she got older it was really important for her to have the power windows and the power door locks. All work well.
This vehicle runs well, GREAT air conditioner, and the interior is beautiful.
This vehicle has a feature that my father just loves!! It has automatic Seat Belts. When you get in the car and close the door, the car automatically swings the seatbelt over your shoulder and latches you in. Now with the California "Click it or Ticket" campaign, this is one way to not get a seat belt violation for sure!!!
It has the Four Cylinder 2000cc 16-Valve engine. Incredibly thrifty on gas.
The Registration is current and paid through October 2008.
Lets talk about the "Salvaged" status on the title. My dad was always looking for a bargain. He spotted this vehicle for sale in a vehicle auction in 1991. (Now remember - this is a 1991 car). It had 13,000 miles on it, and had been rear-ended. The previous owner's insurance company declared in non-repairable and sold it off. My dad bought it, and it ran like new (it was almost new) but it had this horrible pushed in trunk and of course carried the "salvaged" title.
My dad paid $4000 to have a "clip" put on the car. He tells me that effectively what they do is find another car in a junk yard with no damage to the rear. They cut the body off and move the good body onto the vehicle with the damage. Overall, I feel they did a pretty good job. You cannot tell at all that there was ever body work done unless you get out the magnifying glass.
The trunk has the V6 emblem on the trunk - that is the only way you can tell that the collars and cuffs do not match.
The only tell-tale problem from the installation of the "clip" was that there are several minor leaks. Water gets into the trunk, and a few drips come in aroud the rear window. All of these things could be corrected with new window moulding on the back window and some new weather stripping. There is a subtle musty smell.
When I was preparing to take the photos of the car, I was horrified to find that the spare tire was floating in a wheel well that was full of water. I punched out the rubber plugs and let the water drain out. The painted surfaces are not rusty, but the threaded spare tire hold down screw is. My dad gave me some lame excuse of never noticing it - yeah, right. A two minute fix and no more humid trunk.
This car runs really well. I shook it down this last weekend and critically looked for any problems. Here is the list:
The radio does not work - no power - possibly bad fuse
The front turn indicators do not work - possibly bad fuse
If the car sits for a week, the battery goes dead. At some point, the alarm fritzed out and my dad installed an aftermarket alarm horn on the car. I have a feeling that there is a wiring error and it draws current even when the car is off.
Someone tried to break into the car and the drivers key lock is missing its trim plate. (see photo) It still works, but looks ugly.
There is some damage to the very low portion of the front bumper on the passenger side where the fog light is located. Does not affect vehicle operation and is only noticed if you bend way down in front of the car.
It has three original Camry hubcaps and one Plymouth hub cap. (I saw that on ebay you can buy four aftermarket Camry hub caps for $25).
Overall, this is a pretty sweet little car. It is peppy, the engine is strong, the transmission is solid, brake work well. I like it.
Registration is current and valid through October of 2008.
We will want to do the proper thing and make sure that the DMV transfer occurs prior to you driving away this nice little car.
Blue Book shows a value of $4650 - so here is a chance to get a great car for a fair price.
Happy bidding

The spare tire has a rusty wheel, the tire is good, but the wheel is rusty. See my notes about the "floating" spare tire in the trunk.

This morning I got a call from a VERY interested potential buyer of this vehicle. He is located in the midwest and is hoping to buy this vehicle for his own personal use.
He describes himself as an authority on the Toyota Camry automobiles.
He says that my description is incorrect and that the sub-model on this car is a DX and not an LE.
He detailed several differences but most telling was the fact that the LE is supposed to have power adjustable mirrors. This vehicle has mirrors that can be adjusted from the interior of the car, but they are manually adjusted - not power adjusted.
I explained that the original book for the car indicates that it is an LE, and he stated that the manual that came with the cars were generic and covered all the different sub-models.
So - just so that there is no confusion - I want to go on record that I am selling a Toyota Camry - I HAVE NO IDEA IF IT IS A LE OR A DX SUB-MODEL.
For all I know, this fellow could have made an error by looking at the photos.
For all I know this fellow could have been giving me some dis-information to shake my confidence in the way I listed this car.
All I know is that it is a 1991 Toyota Camry - it is the nicest, lowest milage, best value on eBay and it seems to work well and is in very good shape.
By the way - the rust marks on the carpet in the trunk are not from the body, rather, my father had some tools in the trunk that got rusty stains on the top of the carpet.
The remote control that operates the power entry locks is NOT the original Toyota unit. At some point, my mom had to purchase a differnt one. This might be connected with the new alarm horn, but I have no way to know. All I do know is that it works and it opens and locks the car as one would expect.
