Offered for sale is my 1980 Toyota Celica GT Liftback USGP Limited Edition. This is fully documented original 75,000 mile vehicle. I purchased this Celica on eBay, in October of 2004, from a Chevrolet Cadillac dealership in southern Georgia. They had owned the vehicle since April of 1995. It was originally purchased in Milwaukee, in June of 1980, from Bill Jacobs Toyota. (Note: the wheels and tires that are on the car in the photo's, are from an 85 Supra. The stock wheels and tires go with the car and are shown in the photos.)
The USGP stands for United States Grand Prix. This Special Edition was to commemorate Toyota's association with Grand Prix racing in the United States. This $750.00 option was offered only in 1980. The option included the following. On the exterior: a special honeycomb grill, flat black B pillars, special side stripes, mud guards, and aluminum alloy wheels. On the interior, the special features included: ivory vinyl seats with black piping, ivory colored headliner and door panels, and a black leather wrapped steering wheel, a high performance sound system, which featured an electronic tuner, cassette deck, equalizer/amplifier, and four speakers. The last item is a USGP dash plaque.
The original mileage documentation includes the following:
The original bill of sale
A photocopy of the title, that shows the ownership transferring from the original owner to the dealership, and then from the dealership to me
The original Owner's Guide (with the original owners name and address filled out on the owner’s identification page that matched the original title information)
The original owner’s manual
The original window sticker
An odometer disclosure statement, showing the odometer reading when it left the dealer
In an effort to present this vehicle for sale so that I can feel comfortable that it's as described, it's necessary for me to cover some negative issues. 1. I can't call this car 100% rust free. There is some corrosion in the trailing end of the rocker molding, right in front of the rear wheel well. It can be seen in two of the photos showing that rear wheel area. The rocker molding is made of steel, with a black rubber cover. It really isn't really very noticeable, as it’s down low on the car, but in time they could stand to be replaced. In regard to body rust, I have been over and under this vehicle repeatedly, and I have never had an occasion to find any rust, except for one area. The exception is on the edges of the sun roof on both sides. There are some bubbles, and I have tried my best to show in the photo's what they amount to. The largest is the size of a quarter. The other that's of significance is an area that measures one and one half inches long and a half inch wide. In addition there are two very small bumps, one is pencil eraser size, and the other is half that big. Now this sunroof doesn’t leak, and I have been in the rain with it, and it sure gets wet when I wash it, but no moisture comes through. 2. There is a problem with the body side molding, where the plastic film on the top edge is coming off. See the photo; (Drivers side, between the rear wheel well and the door.) 3. The flap on the cassette player came off. I have it, but I also have an extra stock cassette player that goes with the car. 4. There is one center wheel hub cap missing, on one the original wheels. (Note in photo.) 5. There is a problem with the latch mechanism on the passenger door. It latches, but unless you shut it just right, it rattles. It won't come open, it just does that unless you get it closed all the way. 6. The cruise control on this car doesn’t work. It was a dealer installed add-on, and evidently it hadn't worked for a long time. 7. The hatchbacks come from the factory with a window shade type cover, that pulls out to cover the rear hatch area, and that is missing. 8. The rear window washer motor runs just fine, but won't squirt. 9. There's a light crease on the front the edge of the gas fill door, however, the paint isn't harmed. The door at some point in time evidently got bent to far back.
The body on this car very straight. As you go down the sides checking, dent and ding wise there's nothing. The fenders, the doors, the quarters, are dent and ding free. The hood is not only dent and ding free, there's not a stone chip anywhere. The paint work is excellent. The sun roof works perfect. It's not electric; it opens manually with a permanently attached crank, (which you can see in the interior sun roof photo.) The tires are in very good condition, the fronts are like new. The backs are a little worn off on one edge, as I bought the wheels and tires used, and the edges were worn like that, when I got them. The tires are Yokohama Avid S/T's. The tire's on the original wheels are U.S. Royal's and are like new. Please note that in the photo's showing the underside, that there is admittedly plenty of surface rust on the mechanical parts, but not on the body. I would have liked very much to show that better, but the black coating that covers all the under body wasn't put there to cover anything up, It's been their since the car was new.
The interior is excellent. The dash, the seats, the carpeting, the headliner, all looks practically like new. It's just a very nice interior. Mechanically this car is a real pleasure. It fires right up, runs strong, and drives straight down the road. The 5 speed shifts smooth, and clutch is excellent. The brakes work fine, the air blows cold, and the exhaust system is brand new from the catalytic converter to the rear bumper. I really don't have to say hardly anything about the 20R engine in this car. It is certainly one of the most dependable engines ever designed by man, and that's the absolute truth. I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere. It's been a real pleasure to own it, and it's a real pleasure to drive it, and one added bonus is this car has for the most been an adult been an adult driven vehicle.
