Vehicle Description
1973 TRIUMPH SPITFIRE (Smog Exempt)
This is a fantastic running and driving California car with just over 60,000 original miles. There is no visible rust and believe it or not, no leaks (rare in any British car). This is a great car restored about 10 years ago and very well maintained since. The body is solid and the engine is strong (and fast).
This is a daily driver and fantastic for the city (turns on a dime). Last year, I would commute with the car 4 to 5 days a week, 43 miles, one way. I averaged 32 mpg highway and about 27-28 city. The 4 speed with overdrive makes highway speeds easy and quiet.
The only true weak point is one small dent in the passenger side door and rims are ok (not showroom). The paint has been well maintained but is 10 years old however, a new paint job would make this car ready for the concourse. I planned to get it painted this summer but circumstances require me to let the car go. My loss is your gain.
Some details:
· The 1500 cc engine was fitting with new higher compression pistons and a higher lifted cam. The engine is out of a 1974 1500 but the car originally came with a 1500. The car is pretty fast.
· Engine fully balanced and has a TR6 double row timing gear and flat top pistons.
· Schneider Cam number 137F, 423 thousands inch lift, 274 degrees duration.
· Webber side draught carburetor, 40 DCOE jetted rich.
· Full synchro transmission completely taken apart, inspected and put back with new gaskets and seals about 2 years (3500 miles) ago.
· Bushings, front springs shocks only a couple of years old.
· Brand new started and electronic fuel pump.
· New spedo cable and choke.
· Brand new soft top and a very nice tonoue cover.
· Removable boot-rack (luggage rack).
· Very clean interior with a great dash, removable face stereo and nice speakers.
· Tires excellent (Sumitomo HRT 200 – 185/60/13) and very good spare.
· Some spare parts, filters, interior panels, Manuals, extras.
I hate to let this car go but new job gives me no time. The car sits and I no longer have a garage. It needs someone who can use and appreciate it.
