1966 Volkswagen Dune buggy. This was in storage for about 10 years. It was brought out two years ago and upgraded to the completely rebuilt 1600cc engine you see with a four speed with reverse volkswagen transmission. (the original 1200cc engine you also see is the original and comes with the buggy) I bought this off the owner of 20 years after the engine upgrade about a year ago.
I bought it with the intentions of tagging it as a street rod in maryland. (maryland street rod tags are $25 a year and J.C. taylor historic/ street rod insurance is about $250.00 a year check both of these out online) As you can see I have a brand new set of front headlights with low and high beams, turn signals, and completely terminated wiring harness. I have a set of jeep cj-7 used tail lights that I was going to install on the rear of the buggy.
This was converted from a volkswagen bug to this hi point kit car/ dune buggy sometime in the late 70's. (as labeled on the rear crossmember as shown.) It utilizes the front drive train, rear drive train, motor, transmission, and clutch. It has a hydraulic clutch and brake pedal assemble that everyone likes. (keeps it basic to work on) In the pictures of the buggy in the snow it shows the fabricated fairing for the front of the buggy. It is made in fiberglass and is only ruff finished. It will need a smooth coat and prep. to paint to match the buggy. The miles are as shown on the title dated 5/09/84 without an odometer I have know way of knowing current mileage. Finish the lights and tag it for the street and get great fuel mileage.
The four year old in the pictures has decided we need a golf cart instead at this point. I would trade for a 48 volt electric golf cart, with rear seat, lift, and off road tires.
