Stupid Question, Are you tired of paying through the nose for fuel? Then STOP Here is your chance to go GREEN. I am selling my 1999 VW Beetle GLS TDI that runs on diesle, biodiesel, or my favorite and the cheapest, Waste Vegetable Oil. The stuff that restraunts pay to have picked up behind there restraunts and disposed of as hazardous waste will run your diesel engine with the proper filtering and additives that wind up costing around .40cents a gallon. I do this and my VW loves it. I get better fuel economy with WVO than pump diesel. I usualy drive 75mph on the interstate and average between 46-48mpg, better if you drive slower. I average around 42-44mpg in town driving. Mechanicaly the car is great. I have owned the car for about a year and put 24,000 miles on it in that time. I have replaced the timing belt, water pump, alternator, and turbo. This was a cost of $3000. I have had the ac serviced, windows tinted, brake pads and rotors replaced at a cost of $900. I have replaced the keyless entry remote for $200. I have had the ABS checked out by the local dealer because the light sporadicaly comes on. They said they didn't know why the light was coming on but there was nothing they found wrong with the abs. They didn't charge me for this. I replaced the tires at a cost of $535 but they will need replacing again within the next 10,000 miles or so I think. The ac is cold, the clutch is tight, the transmission shifts as it should. The radio is in the safe mode. You have to have the code to unlock it which I have but I'm unsure of the sequence of buttons to push after inserting the code and haven't had time to go by the dealership as I travel extensively for my job. The cosmetics of the car are good, but not perfect. I would say it is a 7 out of 10. There are scratches, a small dent, imperfections in the paint, and a stain here or there in the interior. Nothing you can't live with. I covered the seats with red pleather seat covers, added floor mats with flames, and added pin stripe with flames to dress it up a little. The car will serve any well for many, many more thousands of miles due to its nature, its being a diesel, its reputation, and especially all the maintanece I have had performed on it. You can learn more about making your own diesel if you are interested at a number of websites but the one that I use and got me started was dieselsecrets.com
