Vehicle Description
Well, here I go again. I am listing this for the 4th time. Two buyers bought and never contacted me, much less paid. One buyer was a kid messing around. I still have never showed it to a real buyer. Maybe the 4th time is my charm. Needless to say, I have changed the way I do business. These changes are explained at the bottom. Up for auction is what I consider my prized 1978 VW Bus Westfalia Camper at NO RESERVE!!!!! Mechanically, I dare say you won't find another as sound and solid as this one. I can't stress that point enough. I bought this Bus in June of 2006 in Minneapolis, MN from famed independent film director Eric Tretbar. He had owned it for a while and in 2005 used it in his biggest film to date "The Horrible Flowers". Both Eric and this film can be "googled" if you wish. You can also go to myspace.com/thehorribleflowersmovie and download a section of the film entitled "Deer Hunter" and see this Bus in it's previous state in a scene from the film. I have enjoyed this Bus every minute I've owned it, and it pains me to sell her, but money calls. It was in need of some restoration when I got it. It has received a new two-tone paint job, both factory VW colors, which I never sanded or buffed out, so you have no fear of fading. All of the jambs and interior metal are still the tan color this Bus came out with. The body rust was not that bad. Metal was welded in where need be, but bondo was used other places. The frame and floor pans were all good. It was not a professional job, but by no means an amatuer job either. It looks very bright and classy. The interior is complete and pretty amazing. The front seats and overhead bed look brand new. The rear seat and rear pad are a little faded. The dash is free from any major cracks. It also comes with the sink/stove unit (I've never hooked up) and the refrigerator, which worked when I tried it. All the cabinets are there (there are a few flaws in the laminate). It even still has all the original curtains, including the rare front windshield curtain (which is green). This Camper also comes with what I believe is all the rare, hard to find, Campmobile equipment. I have the SIDE TENT and POLES, FRONT TABLE, REAR DINING TABLE, CHILD'S HAMMOCK, REAR HATCH MOSQUITO NET, and FRONT CONSOLE/JUMP SEAT. You would spend a small fortune just trying to collect all this stuff in. It also comes with the owners manual, campmobile manual, jack and lug wrentch. The glass is all good, with the exception of two "star chips" in the front windshield. The tires are descent, but not new. None have ever went flat on me. Mechanically, as I said, I can't brag enough. It runs and drives like the best VW dream could. Even after sitting in the garage since last summer, unstarted, I pumped the gas twice, and it fired right up. The battery wasn't even weak. It would be hard to find another like it. No engine noise, no smoke, transmission shifts smooth, clutch good, brakes good, shifter moves smooth, and get this, the heat works, blows, and switches from defrost to floor as it should. All the electrical works (headlights, taillights, brake lights, reverse lights, dash lights, gas gauge, speedometer, odometer, dome lights, both blower fans, rear defroster, wipers, etc.). The horn works sometimes, as well as the aftermarket CD player. The pop top goes up and down as it should and has the bed that sleeps two. It will eventually need a new tent canvas in the pop top. I patched a few tears, but just hated to change out completely. It is still the original one from the factory. The paint has cracked in a few places, nothing severe, but is there. I have used this Bus several times for camping and for a while, used it as my daily driver. I would drive it anywhere, even on highways. It will do 70 mph with ease. It is an absolute blast to drive and takes all the work out of setting up camp. The best part is it is no bigger than the standard VW Bus, so it can be used as a daily driver as well (and is definetly reliable enough to be a daily driver). It does turn heads everywhere it goes. I just can't say enough good about it. It is my pride and joy. Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding. Study the pictures and read any questions/answers I post at the bottom. Discuss it over with whoever you must and secure financing before bidding (most banks won't loan on something is old). If you have less than 10 feedback I must be contacted before you bid or your bid will be cancelled. If you are the winning bidder, I will expect the transaction to be completed or the proper attorney's WILL be contacted. Also, remember you are bidding to buy, not to come look at and decide then. Please remember this bus is 30 years old and not perfect. It is not ready for the VW muesuem, but still very impressive for it's age. The clear Missouri title MUST be filled out before it can be released to you. I only sell within the continuous 48 United States. I will work with the shipper of your choice, but arrangements and payment are your responsibility. A deposit of $500 is due via PayPal within 24 hours of auction end with the remainder due in 7 days via cash or bank certified cashiers check. Please don't bid if you can't meet both payment deadlines. Once paid for in full, I can store for as long as you need at no charge. It is sold AS-IS with no warranty expressed or implied. Unless you are one of those "impossible to please" people, there is no way you could be disappointed with this purchase. Thanks for looking and happy bidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On Sep-02-08 at 07:31:29 PDT, seller added the following information:
I have already had tons of questions regarding driving this home to various locations across the country. As stated, it is as solid and sound as one gets. I trust it 100%. That being said, I have two concerns. First, it is 30 years old and anything can happen out on the road. Second, as stated, the tires are decent, but not new. I would attempt to drive it anywhere, but I understand anything can happen with a vehicle of this age. As long as you understand that, at your own risk, drive away. For peace of mind, hauling or shipping would be best.
